old technology.... maybe i should move back to the ghetto and rehook to my 56k

SWB DSL HELL

I have been trying to get DSL from SWB for the last 2 months. The first installation was lost. The second was scheduled for May 23rd, sometime between 8am and 8pm. No one showed or called. Since this was scheduled through my ISP, I called them (Webzone). They eventually got me a new installation date, June 13. On June 3 I received a voice mail message that the installation had again been cancelled, and if I needed more information I "could call during regular business hours". I called SWB (6-5-00) and after being disconnected or getting a busy signal on the customer service line numerous times, I was passed around several areas, and then got to speak to Mike. He looked up the information and couldn't figure out why the order was cancelled. (It was supposedly that the central office was closed). I was told he would get back to me in the next two days (6-7-00) with an answer and hopefully a new installation date, now "sometime after July 1". Called back on Monday (6-12-00) of the following week, ( 7 days later ) and asked for a manager or supervisor. After getting Mrs. England on the phone, I discussed the problems for approx. 45 minutes. I was told that she would get with "another department" and someone would e-mail me that night with the information on a new installation date. I was also told that had I not wanted to use my own ISP that the installation would have probably gone smoother. I was told to call my ISP and have them also confirm installation with their own SWB partner contact.
Another 3 days have passed and no call or e-mail. I called again today (6-15-00), was transferred to the wrong department and after a 27 minute wait got a customer service representative who "didn't even know who Mrs. England was, but would try to find out". I was given two possible Mrs. Englands, and should "probably call and try to track her down myself". I had the customer service rep. look up the order, and she "couldn't find it in either one of her systems".

I just got off the phone with the Corporation Commission for the State of Oklahoma. I was told that they do not regulate SWB related to DSL, but the lady took my complaint, and was to call the SWB corporate office.

This is the worst service I have had from any service provider. I will be on the phone today with COX Cable, and hope they have cable modem service in my area. If not DISH Network may have service by the fall.

Why not rate the isp, and not 3rd party forums?

sounds like you have more issues with the SBC forum than with the actual service. I agree with ya in part tho, the forum is just not the same since they changed "official" support over to a private thread.

As far as the outsourcing to India, you are aware that as the contracts end, the jobs are moving back to the US?

Re: Why not rate the isp, and not 3rd party forums

I did rate the ISP, and I commented on the forums.

Basically: Quality of DSL line: Excellent
Quality of network connection: Excellent

Quality of ISP Services: Poor (SBC/Yahoo has a lot of fancy bundled stuff, but not the services that count) Examples: No online linkable webspace, throttled/capped newservers, etc.

Quality of tech support: Really, really bad, except here, but then as I mentioned, the forums are declining too.

BTW that's good news about the India thing, that's been a DISASTER.

well..

Your not the only one Krk.. who misses the old forum.. I rarely visit the SWBell forum anymore.. I do hope though that when a person has a question or opinion its respected as their opinion end of story.. there should never be a case where we as employees jump to the defensive right away without hearing the whole story.. though I must admit sometimes it is hard to be impartial since most of us take pride in our company Ive caught myself do that on occasion..

I am glad that your service is rock solid.. Im sure ADSLguy had something to do with that lol.. and well.. maybe if we all stopped by that forum and said hi from time to time instead of just letting everything be business we may all get better results..

Just a quick note

For a number of years now AT&T has people on this site that actually provide troubleshooting and problemsolving in the AT&T Direct forum.

This has been a boon, and kudos to AT&T for doing it. The people who work in that forum get a lot of frustrating problems fixed everyday.

So I would rank it like this:

Tech Support:

Via Phone/email etc: Poor/Questionable (Especially if you get overseas call-centers)

Via DSL/BBR Reports: Awesome!
