| Ahh, yes, another Verizon post ... I just love posting replies to the Verizon posts ...
How many times do I have to re-iterate that I am a DSL convert? If you MUST have DSL, then seek Panix or someone (rated on DSL Reports.) Verizon is ... well ... half-assed. If you live in North Jersey, then you want OOL anyway (because it's faster than a T1 all the time, and we ALL want T1s at least ...)
All I can say is this: Verizon is like Hyundai - They have their hand in everything (Cars, Semiconductor Chip Manufacturing, etc.,) Except they are the joke of everything that they do (Do you REALLY want to drive that Hyundai on your own free will? Do you think Hyundai RAM chips are going to hold up and perform reliably?). Unfortunately, sometimes you have no CHOICE (All you can afford is that new Hyundai Accent, The computer CAME with some Hyundai RAM ...) - but you just may, if you look hard enough (Gee, that old used Mustang really smokes the Hyundai and costs about the same ... I'll use the Hyundai RAM until something better comes along.) My point: Even when you are seemingly faced with only one option, it is usually not the case. Get a different DSL, or even cable. Just steer clear of Verizon.

| Re: Ahh, yes, another Verizon post ... Well if you knew the situation then you could comment further.
1) There is no cable modem in Baltimore City. Seems that this was the LAST area to get cable because the city council had spent years trying to gouge every company that tried to get cable in here. Finally got it in 1984 and took 4 years to completely wire everything. Was United Cable, then United Artists Cable, then TCI Cable, then ATT Cable. Now it seems that because of a deal, Comcast will take over since ATT and them had a fight over MediaOne and as a condition of of leaving MediaOne to ATT, Comcast got a lot on the east coast. Now they have to upgrade equipment and most likely that won;t happen until 2003 since their franchise agreement comes up for renewal in 2004. (I don't live in NJ so no OOL.)
2) No matter who I use for DSL, I am still being reported at 19,400 by Verizon. So whatever service I go with, will have to deal with that distance. Even Panix which doesn't even serve Maryland.
Verizon controls that last few miles and if they decide not to upgrade then nothing will help DSL service.
I would have hoped for a better argument but no knowing the situation does give you a disadvantage.

| ok wait there buddy. It seems that you are a little biased. Verizon is a good isp with a strong background. I've had it for quite a while now and it is reliable to me. To me Verizon is more like a loaded Ford Explorer. It has its problems sometimes but is overall fast. (Bad car analogy) but still verizon is perfect here. | |
