i to just moved and figured i would try out comcast becasue they would install the date i moved compared to a month or so for dsl. compared to dsl, @home sux. d/l's are alright, but in even semi busy hours pings and d/l are horrid. i'm gonna reorder dsl as soon as i can and cancel this garbage

| comcast blows big time i live in columbia marylnd. ive had comcast for about a year and a half now. during this period, one and a half months of down time, not including when just the mail server was down. i constantly get much slower download speeds than expexted. thanks to thier crappy job of installing the cable lines, i had to wait 3 weeks after a storm knocked it out for them to replace it. when they finally did, they dug up my front yard, and it still works like sh*t. on occasion i do hit good speeds on napster, but usually it sucks. on the ny server, i can get only 800 down max. my friends are getting around 3000. i complained to comcast, but they havent responded. probably never will. i dont get it. my area has had the fiber optics upgrade long ago, in one of the richest nighborhoods in hwrd county, and they cant supply decent sercice. maybe i should just go dsl. | |

I am in Bel Air MD... well first time I ordered comcast I had to cancel it after 2 weeks... it was horrible... packet loss and ping spikes of 1500+. I reordered it month later... been 3 months of relatively good service... although I was noticing slight PL... I kept calling and calling, nothing was done... untill damn thing broke... now I am getting 90% packet loss...

| I have a NAT subnet so I can use different machines on COMCAST without the hassle and expense of formal service. NAPSTER does not work any more. I get so many timeouts. I suspect it is because of the latency, gateway memory, and perhaps some ISP blocking; but I do get 5% of my requests.
EX-PRESSNET (COMCAST or specifically CTVM.COM)Residential users will continue to increase demand for bandwidth therefore I believe that bandwidth sharing in cable modem architecuture, along with competative pricing, will kill cable modem use except for the thrifty customer.
Thrifty demand, slim margins, low profits, will result in worsening quality of service in cable service. The QOS in EX-PRESSNET.COM customer service will further worsen. Hell, even their help page has persistently broken links. Any questions ???
DSL is still a ripp off for residential customers. Pricing competation will not improve. It will worsen, too, as peering disappears.
PUBLIC INTERNET IS A THING OF TH EPAST. LONG LIVE PUBLIC INTERNET ...
EX-PRESSNET LATENCY...looks like the cable modem can't communicate well with my gateway. Maybe I need more memory ? Nevertheless, the latency in UUNET routers below is 1/2 of what it was last night !!!
Last mile network providers will never be able to supply enough bandwidth without charging for the variability in usage.
