When I open Windows explorer for the first time after rebooting my system hangs on the Stat Menu for approximately 5 seconds. It used to be instant and now it seems to take forever. How can I speed up this proccess?
Thanks |

My OS is XP Pro. I think it has to do with the installation and uninstallation of a lot of programs. I have tried a couple of registry cleaners and none seemed to have solved theproblem |

| Do you have a lot of programs set to run at startup? And like Bubba said, defrag your hard drive since you mentioned that you uninstalled and installed a lot of programs.
You can run from command prompt:
defrag C: -a (replace C: with your hard drive letter) for a disk fragmentation analysis, or press Analyze from the Defrag program. -- I'm only level 3... sad isn't it? =) |

It is probably waiting for some programs to start up, so it hangs at the menu.
go to run 'msconfig' and see what is starting up in th e startup tab. If you have a lot of stuff starting up, it will usually take longer to get to a point where windows is usable. -- www.empx.net |

I also have run defrag to no avail.
Anything else? |

| reply to jvalal This only occurs after I download and try a bunch of things and then remove the programs. Like the Start Menu is looking for them or something. I had this problem in the past and re-imaged my machine, put everything else back on and didn't have that issue. I can't be the only one with this issue... |
