When I open Windows explorer for the first time after rebooting my system hangs on the Stat Menu for approximately 5 seconds. It used to be instant and now it seems to take forever. How can I speed up this proccess?

My OS is XP Pro. I think it has to do with the installation and uninstallation of a lot of programs. I have tried a couple of registry cleaners and none seemed to have solved theproblem |

| Do you have a lot of programs set to run at startup? And like Bubba said, defrag your hard drive since you mentioned that you uninstalled and installed a lot of programs.
You can run from command prompt:
defrag C: -a (replace C: with your hard drive letter) for a disk fragmentation analysis, or press Analyze from the Defrag program.

It is probably waiting for some programs to start up, so it hangs at the menu.
go to run 'msconfig' and see what is starting up in th e startup tab. If you have a lot of stuff starting up, it will usually take longer to get to a point where windows is usable.

I only have 8 programs in my statrup tab of MSConfig. That doesn't seem like a lot to me.
I also have run defrag to no avail.
Anything else? |

This only occurs after I download and try a bunch of things and then remove the programs. Like the Start Menu is looking for them or something. I had this problem in the past and re-imaged my machine, put everything else back on and didn't have that issue. I can't be the only one with this issue... |
