I had a bunch of connection lock-up problems with 2.37, and I went back to 2.28. Problems solved.

| reply to jb503 Well... I have been watching, reading and waiting for this stupid router reboot nightmare to be fixed. I have tried many of the suggestions posted here. Disabling this and that. Factory reseting, etc. I got the runaround from Dlink support.. "you may have a virus or spyware" crap! I never had the pleasure of experiencing firmware 2.36.. but my 624 started its rebooting dance with firmware 2.28.. and several months of solid performance I should add. 2.37 didn't fix a thing. Factory reset made it stable for almost 46 hours.. then back to same old tricks.. reboots whenever. No rhyme or reason.
-Fast Forward to present I installed 2.41 after a factory reset at about 13:25 MST today. at 13:53 my router rebooted. This is just great!
DI-624 Rev c1. And for those wondering.. all my user settings stayed even through the factory reset / 2.41 update. Anyone need a slightly used DI-624?

| hmm i have had my 624 rev.C1 2.25 for about two three weeks now. and the only time it it dropped connection when my dsl provider went down.
It has been stable no drops no weird logs, nothing. It hasn't even rebooted it self.. i haven't tried the rest of the features, but i just wanted something to have wireless connectivity around the house.. is this upgrade worth it? or should i stick with what i have |

| When posting about the 2.41, could we note the C1 vs C2 version of the 624, please; it might be important.
I am in the midst of writing up my history of 2.37 w/ C1 vs C2 to post for the group, and long story short, BIG DIFFERENCE; C2 stable, C1 unstable with 2.37 (over two weeks each). I obviously have 2 624s, and in both cases I did the "deep reset" (or whatever you call it) and loaded 2.28 then 2.37 then manually entered all the settings in each and plugged the C1 in, went 2 weeks, unplugged the C1 and plugged the C2 in, went 2 weeks.
Anyway, am working away on the post now so will try to get it finished by Sun night.
Next tests are: G800AP repeater fw 1.02 w/ 624 C2 2.37 624 C1 fw 2.41 624 C2 fw 2.41
My family is ready to lynch me if I switch out the currently stable C2 2.37, but all in the name of testing.

| reply to LastDon If you don't need the Super G, stick with what works. I am actually going to put back the 2.25 firmware later tonight. I use 802.11g but don't need super G as I have no adapter for it.
FYI Dlink has removed the the 2.25 firmware link from their website. I grabbed it via FTP instead. »ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/di624_revC/
I'll post an update later.

I was feeling brave (or reckless) so I just upgraded to 2.41 right now. Great news is that it retained all of my user settings from 2.37, including: mac ids, WPA keys, firewall rules, performance settings, the whole shebang!
Way too soon to make any real determinations yet but I did want to let you know that is does retain the user settings. Will keep everyone posted if it fixes any of the 9 known bugs that were in 2.37.
PS Steve I'm using a 624/c2 for the time being. But might upgrade to the newly wi-fi approved version over the weekend though.
EDITED: Ok one strange thing has reoccurred. With the wireless laptop (running win xp/h) I can see all computer connected to network, under Network Places, including the wireless pc itself.
But with the wired pc's (running win xp/h) there are no computers listed, not even themselves. To see anyone, I have to click on Entire Network/Microsoft Windows Network/Mshome/ in order to see any computers.
The process is slow takes anywhere from 20-30 secs (or longer) for the computers to show up (including the one youre trying it from). The laptop show all computers instantly under Network Places and accessing all files is much quicker. Ping times back and forth are all the same at about 1ms.
I had this problem with either 2.28nov or 2.36 but not with 2.28oct and 2.37. |

¤ Fixed DHCP disconnect bug ¤ Improved WAN port connection performance
I cannot understand what this fixed or improved it's rather vague. After upgrading from 2.37 to 2.41. I see absolutely no difference. Can someone explain what this means? |

| reply to SoCal99 SoCal99,
Seeing or not seeing computers listed in Network Neighborhood/Places is most likely a NETBIOS and/or Computer Browser issue.. and not actually a by-product of the router and its firmware... and if you see computers listed on the 'MSHOME' workgroup, one can assume you have Internet Connection Sharing(ICS) enabled as well. This further complicates NETBIOS resolution and kind of negates the need for a BB router in the first place, does it not? I would also be willing to bet you have UPNP Enabled as well in the 'Tools', 'Misc' portion of your router? ...and at least one of your XP systems has installed the router as an actual network device/connection? ... and this computer is sharing internet out using ICS to the rest of your systems.
I recommend disabling UPNP on the router, turning off ICS entirely for any and all Windows machines on your network. You have a BB (sharing) router. Pick a name for your workgroup or domain if you are running one and decide which computer is going to be master browser and set all other computers to not be the master browser. Usually, the computer that stays on all the time is the best choice. You will find that setting the following reg key will keep windows computers from participating in computer browser elections: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters] "IsDomainMaster"="FALSE" Also, slow browsing in Network Neighborhood (NETBIOS Browsing) is a known issue with WinXP. I don't know the exact reason, but it is caused by the WEBCLIENT service taking a very long time to resolve. WEBCLIENT is a service that is used for WEBDAV, which is basically a file & share browsing within IE over the Internet. It's a handy tool when you need it.. unfortunately, it slows local network NETBIOS browsing considerably. Furthermore, 99.9% of us never use it.. and I'd be willing to bet you don't either? It's an easy fix too. In computer management, under services you will find WebClient. Stop this service, set to disabled or manual.. enjoy faster local NETBIOS browsing... immediately;)
Hope this helps.:)

I've got a DI-624/c2 (now running 2.41 for a couple of hours), hooked up to a wired pc (XP/home), a wireless pc G520, and XP/home), and a laptop (G650 and XP/home).
Ever since switching preamble to LONG, my inter-pc browsing has been very quick - almost as quick as a wired ethernet LAN.

- Kept my 2.37 config. - I am actually surprised to say that WAN access is indeed a bit faster....it FELT faster and I am getting 3.2mb/s as opposed to 2.6mb/s on average via the CNET speed test routine. - Wireless is fine. The speed differences are less noticable here. Probably latency issues here |
