| [Equipment] VT1000 vs ATA-186
I want to subscribe to vonage . Please suggest should I go with ATA-186 or VT1000? I want to get a device which could be used after I disconnect the vonage and can be used with FWD. Can someone post a comparison between both devices?

So far my VT1005 has worked very well.
What types of features are you looking for from the ATA? |

Where i can find the comparison on VT1005 vs ATA186-2.

Vonage will usually unlock an MTA if you cancel the service, pay an unlocking fee ($15) and forfeit the cancellation charge ($40, essentially you buy the unit for $55).
If you check the archives you will see many comparisons of the two. Essentially, the VT1005V will do everything the ATA-186 will do, plus it has a built in NAT router with QoS so you don't need a router (although it seems that most people successfully using one, myself included, still do use a router and forego the built-in one and the QoS). It also does some things that the ATA doesn't (when used with Vonage)like FSK Visual Message Waiting Indicator. (The latest firmware of the ATA, 3.0, does support this, but Vonage still doesn't use it).
Some here have also asserted that the Cisco unit is more reliable, but that has not been my experience. |

| reply to cyberbird Your best bet would be to go to the websites Motorola and Cisco and reseach each. I guess if you bought an ATA-186 from ebay or something... you could use it for vonage, but then you will still pay an activiation fee.. etc. I am not sure if they will even let you bring your own box. VoicePulse will let you purchase your own Sipura device and they will leave it unlocked if you do purchase it yourself. They will lock their port I am sure... But you have the other to use for FWD or whomever you want. Personally, I hear that VP is the better company and it does have more features, their area code selection is kind of sparse though. In some areas at least. |

LOL. From that article: "Why Ms. VP was so hostile about it is beyond me, but it's nice to know that AT&T's VoIP service is $10/month cheaper than Vonage." In what universe is that true? |
