That was it!!!! My DVD was plugged into the 1080i slot. Now it looks amazing and it fills the whole screen.
One more question:
Is there anything special I need to do for hooking up my PS2? |

Here is a link to my TV and it's specs: Sony TV It says its 1080i capable, but when I change the Cable box settings to 780 or 1080i, the screen goes blank. I can turn it off then back on and the picture comes on. Does this matter? Is there a difference in watching it in 480i? Or should my HD box be able to stay at 1080i. The installer said "It looks like it won't stay on 1080i" If i leave it in 1080i, i have to change it back to 480i to see the menu. I really have no idea what to do.
Sounds like you aren't hooked up to, or not watching your component inputs. You should tell your 5100 or 6208 to display 1080i for all HD signals, and if you are hooked up to inputs on your Sony that can display 1080i (e.g. both my Philips and Mits HD sets can only display 1080i on one of their components inputs, the rest are only capable of doing 480p). Check where you are connected on your TV, that may be the issue. Your box should be able to stay on 1080i, and even if it didn't, it should still be pushing a signal to the TV that it can display. Period. |

said by ticket : They brought mine out Saturday night. I didn't have Tivo before, so this is my first venture with a dvr. Everything works as advertised, if you are recording, you can't watch another channel, however, you can watch something you have previously recorded while it is recording.
The TVGuide software is OK....not great. The system only has about 2 or 3 days of upcoming programs in it. You can select to record by title, but it will only repeat that timeslot, not pick up every occurance of the title.
Its a new toy, so its fun, hopefully when these are fully rolled out, they will have a more robust software interface.
That's kind of weird because my 6208 is updated for approximately 14 days in advance. Maybe you just haven't allowed the box to update?

I got the 6208 installed today morning. Have to check it out in the evening. If it has some decent features, i might even sell my Tivo & Samsung HD tuner on ebay. I really need ESPN but the only digital package is $55, i wish i could cancel this Latino digital package & move to expanded basic instead. What would comcast do, if i called them and asked to be moved out of digital (21$) to expanded basic($41) ? Return the dvr ?? |

I did get the 6208 yesterday as promised. Initially they said the tech did not have one on his truck but he could set me up with a 5100. I replied that I already had HD and that DVR was the whole reason for this order. They were able to get a 6208 from the shop and get it installed with no problem.
Haven't had a chance to use it but will share in the future. |

You can split the signal and record the digital/HD side while you watch analog on the other. Or, if you have a standalone PVR like Tivo or Replay TV you can watch/record on both sides. Only drawback is not having digital channels on both sides. |

There does seem to be some misinformation or confusion on this topic. Direct from the Comcast website: "DVR requires subscription to Comcast Digital Cable." »www.comcast.com/dvr/ |

@ca.com | reply to inthekirby No Bass on WFAA HD (Channel 8)?
Has anyone else noticed that there is no bass on WFAA HD? I checked both analog and Dolby Digital, but cannot find any bass (i.e. Alias last night). HBO HD, etc...seem fine. Does not make sense to me....
Thanks!!! |

Hey Kcharg,
if i could ask you a quick question. i'm living in a loft downtown, and getting HD through comcast with a 5100 box. my buidling is supposed to have an internal circuit on which i can watch the security cameras (front door, back door, laundry room, etc), and it's supposed to come through on channel 11 (tv 11, i suppose, not cable 11). however, the 5100 is connected to my tv via component video, which i'm guessing wouldn't transmit the internal channel even though it's still coming out of the cable port in the wall (is this right)? is there any way i might be able to get that internal channel, like connecting another cable outlet to my tv directly via coax or something?
thanks inthekirby |

Well, I'm not having such good luck. I am a Platinum Digital subscriber and have been a customer for almost 17 years. I also have Comcast cable internet for over 5 years and am currently paying over $150 per month to Comcast, yet I can't get a DVR. Kcharg, what's the secret code to get me a box? |

| reply to srinivos You know I am not a 100% sure about whether you have to have a Digital Package to get a DVR or not. I would venture off to say it would help if you wanted one though (In the qualification process). With your status, having all 3 Lines of Business, I would think that you'd have a good chance of getting it nonetheless.

| reply to kcharg Kcharg,
Is it true that you need to have a digital package at the minimum to be considered by Comcast for DVR ? I've had to upgrade to one to get the 6208.
I've had analog basic cable for nearly 2.5 yrs alongwith digital phone & internet. In dec, i got a Mot5100 box & added HBO. I've been calling Comcast for last few weeks & would always get the answer, "its in trial stage & only few selected by mktg dept are getting it". When my friend(with digital cable) requested & got it, i decided to let them know. So, this csr after 10 mins of making me hold, tells me that i needed to have digital classic atleast as the box would only work with digital packages ! I told her that it was not possible as i already had HD with analog basic package.
She then changed track saying their policy right now was to restrict it to only digital customers. After another 20 mins of back-n-forth discussion, i had to take a basic digital 'latino' package(basic+few latino channels) I don't think its fair because all i wanted was local channels & ability to record & now that is costing me $31.
I was even ready to bump up to higher tier analog but csr wouldn't budge, said i needed a 55$ dig. package to get this box. The only reason i can't move up is that i already pay Directv more than 80$ p.m. and am contracted till aug/sep. I told her that i was interested in moving to comcast after that, but she didn't care. Sad part is that i don't even have ESPN now, that alone will cost me another 25$
end rant> |

| reply to spoon13 said by spoon13 : I called two days ago and was told there were plenty available, but only customers who had been with Comcast for one year would qualify. This is very frustrating because I dropped dish in November (along with my dvr) because I was told by Comcast that the dvr's would be available by January 2004. Also I had called several times since the first of the year and was told each time that I was being put on a callback list only to be told last night that there really was no callback list. Ever. They were just telling people that there was a callback list. Maybe this csr was lying, or maybe they were just being brutally honest, I don't know. Has anybody else ever received a callback? If it's not available to me by May I'm going to switch back to Dish.
I was on the phone with Comcast as I read your post. First I called the national 1-800-COMCAST number and was told that they should be getting more 6208 boxes in our market by month end. The CSR offered to put me on a "priority" call back list, which I went along with.
I hung up and contacted the number for our local Comcast office. The CSR I ended up with said that only customers of at least a year were getting the 6208 right now. I said that makes sense, but what about customers who subscribe to your highest level of programming (Platinum) plus Internet? That seemed to strike a chord with her.
She said she'd see what she could do and put me on hold. Several minutes later she returned and said she was unable to locate her boss so she was going to go ahead and place an order for me. To my delight I am scheduled for a Sunday installation.
Maybe I just got lucky and caught a good CSR. The moral of the story is that the first "no" you hear may not be final. Stay on them and make your case in a polite manner. They want your business and realize that demand far exceeds supply right now. |
