| MS Gets Netscape Maybe MS could buy AOL to finally destroy Netscape once and for all. Its somewhat ironic, as AOL bought Netscape primarily to use as a bargaining chip against MS when they wanted placement on the Windows Desktop.
Of course, what the hell is MS thinking about buying this sinking ship, Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer can't be as stupid as the TW execs were when they agreed to the AOL buyout! -- Keep America Strong! Bush/Cheney 2004

I wonder if Time-Warner would be willing to dump Netscape into Microsoft's hands for a good sum of cash... Time Warner gets a ROI on the failed takeover from AOL and MS gets rid of competitor at the same time. -- Keep America Strong! Bush/Cheney 2004

I pondered that thought myself. Then it hit me. They want to buy it for the subscriber base. And like I said in my previous post, I would hope that they toss the AOL software and make everyone switch to MSN. -- When you're there, I sleep lengthwise And when you're gone, I sleep diagonal on the bed[repeat]

| Microsoft would not be interested in Netscape. Netscape has already been destroyed by AOL. Last year, they discountued the Netscape browser, version 7.1 was the final version. The developers have all moved on. Netscape is no longer a browser company, AOL turned it into a web portal and discount ISP. Mozilla is a seperate organization. It's a completly independent, open source organization. Whatever happens, Mozilla will still be around. | |

1 edit | Well to be honest AOL is far from being a sinking ship. It may be taking on a little water right now but its not about to die.
But of course that if this statement from CNN is true, and I tend to believe it is.
"But the unit has continued to produce profits though, posting operating income of $663 million and earnings before depreciation and amortization of $1.5 billion in 2003. Its revenue of $8.6 billion, while off 5 percent from 2002 levels, was the second largest contributor to company revenues after its filmed entertainment unit, which had a record year"
