Re: Comcast HD Box 6200 model

It typically will get installed automatically.

Of course, if you get 7.10 and you're using DVI, you may run into problems. There is a widespread problem with version 7.10. It causes an issue where the DVI output and HDCP on your display device don't want to play nice together, so DVI becomes unavailable.

Has anyone here had cracking and poping sounds from their speakers on analog stations? Im on a 5100 with V7.07 ive seen a few posts (»www.hometheaterspot.com/htsthrea···n=555306) talking about similar problems. Any feedback from anyone on this??

Thanks in advance

Whenever the firmware is available, it is for everyone. Motorola is the one to introduce the new firmware in the market. Perhaps Your cable company has not been contacted by them as yet, or other way round it is already scheduled. You shall call your CSR and ask them about it for dates when it is scheduled to happen.

IndianPara,

Is the firmware 7.10 available to all Comcast areas or just out in Denver, etc. I know my box is polling, but don't know if you have to request the firmware be updated, or should it happen automatically. You had stated that the firmware happened one time and that if it didn't get update then, then you might be out of luck, etc. If I call CSR, will they know how to update the firmware to 7.10 from 7.07 which I currently have. Hope this didn't come across TOO confusing. Thanks, David in Frisco, TX

Switch off your STB and within 5 seconds click on "Select" of your remote control. A menu will open and you can use arrow keys to browse through and it will tell your the firmware. Up & down arrow keys will browse you through the menu, and side arrowkeys will take you to submenu. Once finished, press OFF and ON again to resume with your normal programming. I am telling you this but customers are not supposed to know about it though.. 8-))
If it is not 7.10, then you need to contact CSR as most likely your box is not polling. MSO/HITS usually update the firmware of the boxes automatically through the same coaxial Cable without you knowing about it. If your box was not polling to the HMS system in the headend then perhaps you did not get the update. In any case if the firmware is older you will need to contact CSR at your Cable Company.

Thanks for the update on the firmware version. I am not at my home right now to check, however, if I find that I don't have the updated firmware, how do I get it updated? Also, can I see the firmware in the setup area of the box?

Thanks for the help in advance.

It is soo hard to admit when people's equipment is bad. I run too many Service calls daily that are due to customer's bad equipment. It all makes it worth it when they get charged that hourly service charge though, especially when I prove to them after being shouted at....LOL

The issue was with the older firmware. The latest firmware now is 7.10. Anyone having that firmware should not have popping sounds anymore. A note to people: I have come across cases where even with the latest firmware people were complaining about the popping sound. Usually those customers were using the Optical output for which they purchased the jumper from the local store. A very little dirt which may look to you as perfectly clean Fiber can cause popping sound. In this case, the gentleman purchased a fiber jumper from the local store paying $50 and his speakers were popping so he complained to us. We only changed his fiber jumper with ours which was thoroughly cleaned by us and it started to work fine.
As strange it may sound, people at time do not want to admit that something can be wrong with the stuff they bought...

Kcharg,

So would getting a new box help, or is this symptomatic of all 6200 HD boxes.

Thanks for your help,

David in Frisco

No a new box should not help. It is something the company is working on.

Recent pick up of the HD Box and I am noticing that when tuning in the analog channels 2-95 I am getting some popping sounds through my speakers (have the TV speaker output on Sony 50 LCD RP to my surround sound) whereas if I tune to the digital channels, HD, etc. I don't have that same sound pop problem. Is this a bad box or is it something I have to live with when tuning the analog through the HD box.

Thoughts?

There is a known issue with some HD boxes causing popping sounds on analog channels only. From what my company is telling me Motorola is working on it.

Not sure about the A/B cable box...

But the drop amp I have has one in (cable) and two out (cable box and TV). I would imagine there is a drop amp with 3 outs?

Good luck.

After reading here for two months I finally got my 6208. Took four different reps with the waiting list story before I got a rep that just gave me one. Persistence pays off I guess.

I wanted to try using the dromp amp you recommended but I have an "A" cable and a "B" cable. How do I hook up both? Do I need to get two and is it worth it?

Something tells me, the 6208 is just not as good with the analog channels as the 5100.
I tried the 6208 and returned it, once I got the 5100 back I noticed the analogs looked better. Not great but better than the fuzzy interpretation of the 6208

Use 'Page Up' and 'Page Down' feature as well.

Is there a way to skip channels from the guide when scrolling through...it is pretty frustrating while just surfing by pushing the Up Channel button and bogging down with channels you don't get
You can set your favorites in the menu for channels you get and then use the "Fav" button on the remote. Kind of clunky, and only goes up, not down, but it works. There isn't any other way unfortunately.
