Yes that ceramic block is indeed an old style demarc point on your phone line. Next time you have your phones worked on by a Bell tech ask them to install a standard phone jack at your demarc. A tech did this for me a few years back when we called him in to check out a bad voice connection. No charge either...

Actually I'd suggest calling up Bell and seeing if they'd do it for you free of charge. Since under the new regulations everything past the demarc is the homeowner's responsibility, it wouldn't be ridiculous to ask for a modern and up to date jack at your demarc point.

As far as a DIY job goes, I wouldn't recommend it. If you botch it yourself, you'll have no one to blame when Bell comes to your door and charges a $90 service call to fix it.

Dude,

That's some nasty cable. That Zip-cord style drop wire hasn't been used in YEARS. The masking tape is a nice touch.

I'd suggest that you're probably (wink, wink) having issues with intermitent noise on the line... Call it into 611 Repair, not the DSL desk. They should replace the drop and update the Demarc to made about 40 years later then the current one, at no charge. There maybe a charge for extending from the new demarc (installed on the side of the house, most likely) to the existing wiring, though. Then again, you've got the option of doing that yourself.

YMMV - Heath

Our lines had some Noise, but nothing much, The house is pretty old, but looks New Inside. I dont think my dad wants me to call bell because he does not want to pay for it.

he says if its not broken dont fix it. So i dont think we are going to be calling bell unless we have some major problems which we dont right now.

I wanted to connect directly to it because I did not get the 3mb Upgrade because im on Interleave and its probably because they think or maybe see something wrong with my line so I wanted to try by passing the lines in my house and maybe that would fix the problem.

Like I said. Forget about installing a jack yourself. Bell WON'T charge you to install a modern demarc jack, explain that to your dad. Offer to pay for the service call yourself if he still doesn't believe you. As for getting off interleave, you'd still end up having to put in a ticket with Bell Nexxia and they'd possibly send a tech to your home anyway. Also, chances are that you're on interleave and low profile simply because you're too far away from the CO. Call up Nexxia and ask them how far away you are from the CO. It's usually rated as a number from 1 to 5 and I think the lower the better in that case.

I know what number thing ur talking about and I think the higher it is the better, at least thats what I read on this site. Anyways I got a 4 which is pretty good. I think bell put me on Interleave by Accident or something, thats why i have been trying to get them to put me back to normal.

I called was on the phone for 20min with Level 1 Tech finially he was going to put me to level 2 Tech but they wer busy or something and they said they would call me back in like 48Hours or something, and he told me this Wed Night so come Monday im calling again.
Thanks
