| anybody know Michigan?
I just got a call that my uncle passed away this morning. He'd been fighting lung cancer for the last 5 or 6 years.
I'm trying to figure out the best way for me to get up to Michigan for his funeral Saturday morning. It's in Hanover, Michigan, 49241. The closest city of any size is Jackson. I'm trying to figure out the closest place I could fly into and get a rental car.
Any help is appreciated. I mapped it out and it looks like about an 18 hour drive from Dallas. |

Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) is the biggest, about 1 hour, 1.5 hours from Jackson.
I think Jackson also has an airport. I have driven Detroit to Wichita Falls ( 2 hours from Dallas, A lot, I average 17 hours, but that is cruising at a GOOD speed.
Let me check some info on Jackson for you. I'm up in the Detroit area right now.
EDIT: Here is the Jackson Airport info »www.co.jackson.mi.us/airport/ I would suggest flying into Detroit Metro, and driving to the Jackson area. -- Lightning Bolt Technologies |

| Yep, Expedia.com was in the $530 range also.
You can also call the airlines, they have special offers for funerals. But typically Internet specials will be the same or cheaper. -- Lightning Bolt Technologies |

I may give them a call and see what they can offer.
Thanks for your help! |

@12.129.x.x | Many airlines offer fares at a reduced cost for things like this. Call the airlines themselves and ask. I know Northwest does as my wife used them to fly from Dallas to North Dakota for around $350 round trip. |

| Thanks jfwjxn. I was actually born in Jackson, but moved away when I was 5.
I ended up with the cheaptickets.com deal -- it ended up being just under $400, and includes a rental car. Perfect! (well, "perfect" only b/c I just happened to have my tax return and could afford it right now)
I called a couple airlines and none of them could beat that deal. American told me it would be about the same price (even with the bereavement discount), and Southwest even quoted me $700!! |
