Well, it has been marginal for me here the last little while. I was on a call for quite some time without a problem, and then the other party complained that my audio would drop or become garbled. I figured it was my Charter cable connection as usual, since the upload side of it sometimes loses sync. (I could hear them just fine.) No big deal, switched to my cell phone.
I did have trouble placing a few calls (it would simply go silent after dialing) and had to reset the DTA once because it locked up. But I figured this was all a result of packet loss on my end. (Our Internet was acting up earlier this afternoon, so I figured it was related to that.)
Maybe it's on their end, though, now that others mention it.
However, I will give their support this: Realize that the Packet8 technicians have lives too, and probably don't spend all their time using Packet8. Meaning, they may not be aware of a problem as soon as we are. Yes, they should have paging and notification systems in place, but those aren't always perfect and can't monitor everything. It's the same way at my workplace, sometimes I'll be out of town and end up being paged about a server being down, and it may be an hour or two before I am able to get back to 'net access to fix the issue. Or even update a tech page for that matter. Plus, being a weekend, they may have limited staff available and just not have the people on hand to update the webpage.
By the way, I'm not flaming the poster who brought up the support page issue... just stating what I think might be the reason behind it. Plus, for $19.95 per month, I don't have as high of expectations for them as I would if I were paying our local telco $70+ per month for the same service...
Anyway, just my $0.06 (adjusted for tax and inflation.) |

| reply to jeortiz For those who expressed surprise that Packet8 didn't notify us of the outage via their web site or email: you might want to recalibrate your expectations about Packet8's notification procedures. To the best of my knowledge, Packet8 notifies their customers of current developments only in the event that a full-scale nuclear war happens to break out on the 29th of February. But when that happens, the Internet is usually shut down by missile strikes, so you never actually see the update.
But we love them anyway, right? |

When I'm out fixing equipment for work the last thing I'm worried about is notifying someone its down. Get the equipment up...if you have time..update the webpage. |
