What server are you trying to d/l from? If you only have the one option from free.grisoft.cz try this.
Navigate to your AVG install directory and rename your existing url.ini file to url.iniold.
Copy the following and paste into notepad and save it as url.ini. Put this new file into your AVG install directory. You'll now have 3 options to select from with www.grisoft.com being the default.
[SERVER_NAME] 1=free.grisoft.cz 2=ftp.grisoft.com 3=www.grisoft.com
[SERVER_URL] 1=http://free.grisoft.cz/softw/60/fe 2=ftp.grisoft.com/pub/softw/60/fe/ 3=http://www.grisoft.com/softw/60/fe/ Actual URL=3 -- Write your questions down on the back of a $20 dollar bill and send them to me |

I can't say for sure whether I was the original finder for this since others have been aware of it for quite some time. I've been using AVG6 free for a long time. When I first started using it, there were 2 or 3 download choices, can't remember for sure now. Grisoft.com was one of them and the CZ server was there but with a different name. At some point in time, new users downloading AVG6 free were only offered the one download location. I'm not sure when this occurred. Shortly after the release of AVG7, one of the AVG6 free updates changed my url.ini to only the one location. When I noticed this, I looked at a backup to get the info I used to have in the ini file and edited it to add the old locations back in. I wasn't sure if this was going to work or not or whether the next AVG6 free update would change it back. So, I just kept a backup one with just the one location in it, in case something didn't work right. I then found out that subsequent updates did not make any changes to it and that's what I've been using. There may come a day when it gets changed again but the way it is now has worked for me without any problems. -- Write your questions down on the back of a $20 dollar bill and send them to me |
