Sure does work... I used it for about 6 months and had no problems at all. Are you using 9.2 or the 10 beta?

9.2 and right now I just put it through my router and it worked...but I was hoping to do it straight from cable modem to my cpu. Is that possible? and if so how? Thanks

It will work just plug it in power cycle make sure you are setup for dhcp and register the mac. »https://sas.r31.insightbb.com

I run Redhat 9, Slackware 9, and on my laptop I run Phlak and Knoppix-STD and I have never had a problem.

You made a great choice going with Mandrake. You won't be disappointed. Everyone should adopt a penguin and then we could rid the world of that other OS from Redmond

Re: Is it possible to connect to insight using linux?

I tested this with Lindows 4.0 several months back. I had no problems connecting to the Insight network. I didn't try any speed test etc at the time. I was just wanting to see if I could live with Lindows. And I had a free copy that I got at a convention to try out. Just downloaded 4.5 from there site the other day.

I know this isn't really considered a popular Linux distro. But thought I'd throw in my experience all the same. Personally I could have dealt with the OS but there were a few annoying things about it in my opinion. I might try Knoppix for fun sometime though. Lindows has a version now that will supposedly work like Knoppix off of a CD.

Re: Is it possible to connect to insight using lin

Actually I am rather enjoying linux. It is very different but very unique. I can see why they have such a strong following or belief. It is a very sound "os" I am also enjoying the browsers that came with it as well. They are solid and fast. But I still went to my old faithfull FireFox As for Java, I have tried many many times and I cant get it to load for the dang firefox. That right now is my only complaint.

I plain on using linux to surf and talk on, and play games on the xp of course.

I use Konqueror for my browser and have never had a problem. Java loaded fine with it.

I did have problems getting Java to load on 9.2 for Mozilla. I ended up just using Konquerer and had no problems since.

Re: Is it possible to connect to insight using lin

Actually I got it to load lol Dont ask me how, or where I saw the documentation but it was actually quite easy. So it is good now Now if I could get my games to run on here it would be all gravy!

Re: Is it possible to connect to insight using linux?

So as I read this, as long as I have my MAC address and use the ip address for url, I don't need to use the insightbb setup disk?

I thought it (CD) was required so and it had no linux support? So it could not verify my service with each reboot which is the Insightbb client side app?

Now I'm confused on the need for the CD with linux or not? Help!

You don't have to use the cd at all. It is mainly used for registration and that really is it. I never installed the cd at all. I do know that the cd won't work with Linux.
