| Google can change my toolbar?
I've just noticed that my google toolbar has been changed to a "Valentine's Day" theme. Although a cool idea (and I like the toolbar) just curious as to how and what else google can change?

| Yes, I noticed that as well ... I guess it's one of the problems of software that can update itself without asking
I use the Google toolbar a lot - like the fact that I can have buttons to search either worldwide or the UK easily accessible - I just don't like the fact that it can auto update (I've turned just about everything else off - like the page ranking stuff and so on). |

Yeah, its not the fact that it updated, its the fact that it did it without my permission. It does probably state somewhere in their EULA that it will do that...but I haven't read it. I would have preferred that it asked me. I would also like to know what type of information the toolbar can send out?

| reply to exocet_cm It's one of those silly things you agree to when you opt to use any given toolbar. It's going to access the Net with or without your permission and it's going to download themes with or without your permission. I'm sure this information was detailed in the legalese you had to click through in the EULA. -- MoveOn.org - DigitalConsumer.org - FTCR.org - Privacy.org - Adbusters.org - Eff.com - Democraticmedia.org - HealthPrivacy.org - Hacktivismo.com - ClearChannelSucks.org - Epic.org - ArnoldWatch.org - major_marco.tripod.com |

| reply to exocet_cm Maybe its because I am using the advanced features? Not sure, I read the Privacy Statement on the website and the EULA on the installer, I couldn't find anything about "Auto Update" or anything related to it...

| reply to exocet_cm I noticed that today also. Thought it was cute. But then I thought of the same thing you guys are thinking, "Hey! It didn't ask me to do that!" Oh well, no big deal.
I'm running v2.0.107 of the toolbar FYI. -- "Back off man, I'm a scientist." |

| Interesting ... both mine (work and home) updated - like others, I don't mind it, I just don't like the fact it did it of it's own accord, though I knew that it has the auto update "feature" - it's just that I like the other features too much to not have it. I've got all the advanced things switched off.
I've got Spyblocker at home - and that didn't stop it. Maybe it's random - and it's whether or not it loves you |

Duh.
You agreed to a binding legal contract that you did not even read, and you have the nerve to "wonder" what the software is doing?

| reply to exocet_cm What sucks is you gotta agree to a blanket EULA. therefore if you agree to most but not all functions you arent given the option of opting out of each section. if you say no then it just wont install -- You can never be too rich, too thin or have too much Bandwidth |

| reply to exocet_cm Re: Google can change my Toolbar?
There seems to be something real fishy about the new Google Toolbar with the VD theme. Mine did not change so I went and downloaded the new one because I thought it was cute.
Problems began after I installed it. My internet connection was just fine UNTIL I rebooted. I could not get on the internet after that. I kept getting a message that it couldn't find the server. If I clicked on my OE I could connect. If I went to my network connections and clicked on my normal connection I could connect.
I did a System Restore, and it took me back to the old Google version 2.0.106. I was able to connect with no problem the way I normally do by clicking on Internet Explorer. I'm sticking with my old version.
Has anyone else experienced this with the new Google Toolbar version?

When it changed here my connection died, coincidence or not its not right without my permission, I will be emailing them about this, and its not going to be good, I have scanned and scanned till I remembered here.
Or the move to another browser is in order, I do have Mozilla 1.6 installed along with Firefox.

| What did you do to get it back, if you don't mind me asking? I tried everything I could think of before I use System Restore.

I went back and read the EULA... Anywho, I will also be e-mailing google about this too. A great idea, but not for me.
