Queens here. 2 months with VoicePulse at the 14.99/month plan. Unlimited service for all regional calls and 200minutes of long distance free.

I check myself and the service in my opinion is perfect in every way except response time from support when you have a question or problem.

Heh, 1st month like 4000minutes outgoing, this month about 4800minutes outgoing and still just 14.99

I'm in Brooklyn with Packet8... It's great!

I've got a 212 number, living in Brooklyn. It confuses the heck out of the pizza guy and taxi's. They all think I'm giving them my work number instead of the home number. And I still use my regular telephone handset. (cordless)

For $20.55, including tax, it can't be beat. Plus, no contract or lock-in period. It's definitely worth a shot. The quality is fine.

Vonage here in Brooklyn with TWC. Have had it for 5 months, not one problem at all. Had a hard time setting up new all in one printer/scanner/fax (Lexmark 6150) to fax over Vonage. Followed all recommendations that I found on here, but still didn't work. Emailed CS, and received a reply that they would call me, did not call me within a week, I sent a semi-nasty email, and received a reply within 24 hours, with the solution (in the Lexmark software, set equipment to act as though it were behind a PBX, turn off error correction mode, and in the Netgear router setup, uncheck the box "Enable Spi". Worked like a charm, and then I noticed on my bill, they credited me $10 for "customer satisfaction". I have the $24.99 plan, my last phone bill was for $17. Not bad. All in all, my experience with Vonage so far, has been truly exceptional.:D:D:D

Seems to me that with each of those services posted in order, price goes up, quality goes down(atleast for packet8 MAYBE) but customer service goes up. And seeing that VoicePulse atleast gives 200minutes long distance with that price a month, its all worth it. Either that or $25/month on there america plan, which is like Vonage $35/month plan.

Still, from what I see, voicepulse is very straight forward and if you dont have a problem with it when you first get it then you will know it was a great choice to make, cause now your saving money and its still unlimited calling.

Its to early in the morning and im in a rush, if anything look at there web sites and compare plans. You will then see what I mean, and seeing that you live in my area, I know the service will be great. *leaves to go buy flowers and candy *

Not really, just cause SPI isnt on doesnt mean the firewall is off. Ive had everything off before and ran multiple tests and nothing got through (except for the few ports I had forwarded)
So hmm yeah, theres 1 thing still there, leave SPI on, and dont have your phone, or take it off and have your phone, your choice there..... The factors of intruders is something else which may have to be accounted for at times.

Actually you are both partially correct. A NAT router will provide some real "firewall features" (such as blocking most unsolicited inbound connections) even with SPI turned off. This is a side effect of how NAT works.

OTOH for the more "advanced" firewall features, you really do need SPI on. So by turning off SPI, the person really hasn't totally removed their firewall, however they have limited its ability to check the packets. In a sense, they have turned their firewall into a more limited (less protecting) type of firewall, by turning off SPI. However, they have not totally removed all firewall protections.

BTW: I'm able to use my P8 phone, without trouble, on my SMC router with SPI on. However, I did tweak some settings from their default (such as increasing the UDP session timeout to over a minute). I suspect similar tweaks may allow other SPI routers (such as the Netgear the other poster was using) to co-exist with VoIP. In other words, I don't think it's SPI itself that is breaking these VoIP services, it is the default SPI settings that cause these VoIP services to (incorrectly) be detected by the firewall as traffic to block....
