| FWAG114 needs reboot at least each 24hrs ?
After using my FWAG114 a few days, I noticed that I have to reboot it at least once every 24 hours in order to get the WAN port in working order again...
After getting home, I can't do anything, even from the router admin pages. NS lookup, ping, nothing... After reboot, everything works pefectly (at least for a few hours).
Router diagnostics show nothing unusual, so I'm kinda lost on this one. Help?
Firmware: U12H00500_V1.0.21 Provider: Telenet (cable-provider in Belgium, uses Motorola Motorola SB5100 DOCSIS modem) |

| Addendum: it is not necessary to reboot the router, a release & renew seems to be enough.
Apparently, the router loses its IP after a while, but doesn't catch on, as the diagnostics show an IP.

| reply to cloink I experienced the same problem, but approximately every four days. LAN side is okay, but no WAN connection.
Contacted the NetGear support a few weeks ago, but they said nobody reported the problem before. Their recommendation was to reload the firmware. Still same problem.

| Seems like all of you are using a cable modem. I'm using mines with a static IP so it doesn't use DHCP or PPPoE. So it might be a bug in the DHCP or PPPoE support with the Netgear firmware. -- Cheers, Vince DNA Logic Corporation »www.DNALOGIC.NET |

| Hmm, that might indeed be it...
Netgear "support" told me to hard reset the router and try again. It shouldn't surprise anyone that that didn't work.
I'm still experiencing this and it's annoying as hell. My girlfriend (also using the wireless) doesn't know much about computers (I'm actually amazed she can turn one on), so when I'm not around to release/renew the IP-address...
Sigh, and here I was thinking: "I'll fork out the extra dough to buy me a good one!".
Should anyone find a solution, please let me know (netgear AT xs DOT be), thanks... |

| Same here. It loses my IP address anywhere from 24 to 48 hours. All I do is unplug/replug it, then it's good for another 24-48 hours, I'm using the latest version 1.21 firmware. For a while it was working fine for weeks at a time, then all of a sudden this. Kind of sucks considering the FWAG114 is Netgears flagship wireless router. |

| I bought my FWAG114 the first of October and for the first day had trouble keeping a connection. Upgraded to new firmware and it has not been down since. I have 4 laptops connected with wireless cards and 4 desktops wired, plus Netgear's PS113 print server. I have DSL through AT&T and am using DHCP. I can only imagine how frustrating it is to all of you. |

| Another thing is I noticed that the latency when you do a traceroute is quite high compared to a wired connection which is less than 1 ms. When it goes through the Wireless at 11g with the notebook using a Atheros A+G card being about 3-4 feet from the FWAG114, there is lag when I'm doing ssh/telnet sessions but it's not there when I use the regular wired NIC. -- Cheers, Vince DNA Logic Corporation »www.DNALOGIC.NET |

Do all of you who have the same problem use a Motorola DOCSIS modem ? |

@telenet.be | Ugh, tech support tells me to call a number in the US... Right! I'm from Belgium, this would probably cost me a fortune...
Can anyone confirm the DOCSIS theory? |

1 edit | reply to cloink Not a Mororola DOCSIS modem here...
Currently setup using DHCP behind a "3Com Corp. External 2-Way Cable Modem" (AKA Sharkfin). Using U12H00500_V1.0.21 firmware on the Netgear FWAG114 (current public firmware as of this post) -- (insert witty saying here) |

| reply to cloink Damn, so much for the theory. Must be crappy firmware then...
Let's hope I can get some second line support by e-mail. And I'll also try hooking up my old FR114 to the cable modem first and then the FWAG behind that...
Very annoying! |

| reply to cloink hi...
It's time to reload the firmware on the router.. To download the latest firmware click on the link below:
»kbserver.netgear.com/support_det···ldID=460
Upgrade using the Web interface Router Upgrade menu::
Write down all of your current settings: you will need to enter them MANUALLY after upgrading your firmware. Open a browser, and type the IP address in the URL box (usually, the default, 192.168.0.1) Login to the router (User Name = admin Password = password unless you have changed it) Click Maintenance > Router Upgrade. Click Browse and locate the upgrade file Click Upload, and wait for the router to reboot. Verify that the router firmware is upgraded. Reset router to factory defaults. Wait for the router to reboot. Re-enter the settings you wrote down before upgrading.
PS: do also tell me what type of internet connectivity are you using,,,, CABLE/DSL..?

@uunet.be
| No, that's probably not it as I am already running the firmware you suggest (using the method you described).
I have no problem trying to reload the firmware, but as with the hard reset, I'm in great doubt that will work, as the router runs fine otherwise.
As stated above: I am using the FWAG114 in combination with a Motorola SB5100 cable-modem. Provider: Telenet (Belgium).
PS: are you a Netgear tech? |

@uunet.be | Unfortunately I have tried that all (reset, downgrade, upgrade, etc.). All to no avail.
Haven't heard from Netgear support in about 2 weeks now...
