 | Telus DSL - new DNS error occuring frequently Hi everyone,
Over the past few days I have been getting a strange Gateway/DNS error when I try to access various web sites, as follows:
Bad Gateway The following error occurred: [code=DNS_HOST_NOT_FOUND] The host name was not found during the DNS lookup. Contact your system administrator if the problem is not found by retrying the URL.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please contact the administrator.
I have never seen this before this week. I can resolve the host fine and traceroute is going through without any time outs as well. Anyone know what is causing this? Thanks. |

 | I thought it was just me!
I called Telus service and they said (as they always do) that no-one else had reported a problem...
I'm baffled. Let me know if you find a solution! |
|
 | Just an update - I ran spybot as I read somewhere that spyware can cause this problem. It found a couple of items which I deleted, but I still have the same problem.
Seems several sites are fine, others I can't connect to at random times. Try once - no go, try a few minutes later and it's fine. Hitting refresh NEVER connects for some reason, even if I hit it for 10 minutes straight.
HELP!!!! |
|
 | can you guys please post the sites you are unable to reach, as well as your IP addresses?
thanks

 | Thanks for your reply!!
Ummm... Is it really safe to show your IP address?
Hopefully it is, and since you need it, its: 205.206.226.42 I connect via a Linksys BEFSR11. Just updated the firmware yesterday to see if that was the problem. It wasn't.
I've added many new DNS entries to my list - I think I have 7 or 8 right now. It makes no difference, so I have to assume it's not the DNS servers' faults.
It seems to be happening less frequently at this moment, but it was so random before it's hard to tell.

Thanks in advance! |

|
 | Yes it is, but different sites all the time. The sites I gave you are fine right now (although I expect later that they may give me trouble)
Here's one that just now that doesn't work... »www.asp-zone.com/aspfaq.asp |
|
 | and what is the exact error you are receiving? |
|
 | Same error as the poster:
Bad Gateway The following error occurred: [code=DNS_HOST_NOT_FOUND] The host name was not found during the DNS lookup. Contact your system administrator if the problem is not found by retrying the URL.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please contact the administrator. |
|
 | BTW - That URL I just gave you now works. (sigh...) |
|
 | Here's a new one:

 1 edit | Now www.aa.com is working.
Okay, I'll stop posting reports... |
|

 | Outlook/Hotmail Error |
I don't know if this is related or if it helps at all, but the only other problem that I've been having with my computer that I wouldn't say started at the same time I started getting gateway errors, but it's been getting much worse lately, is my access to Hotmail within Outlook XP. I occasionally had times in the past where it wouldn't syncronize and I'd have to go out of Outlook and back in or send/receive a few times, but lately it's getting really bad. I can hardly sync at all. The telus send/receive sometimes gives me problems too (as you can see from the attached jpg), but not very often.
So, I wonder if the Outlook/Hotmail thing is related someway. Every day I've been doing a Norton LiveUpdate and virus scan, just to be sure and I keep coming back clean. |

 | reply to gramboh OMG and i thought i'm the only one!! i TOO have been having loads of no DNS Gateway error on certain website... plus outlook express isn't connecting to hotmail server either it keeps on giving me sockets error. They better fix this soon it's driving me nuts |

Possibly related or not: Outlook is becoming unuseable with it's errors!
This is the most common one: Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error (0x80004005) : 'An unknown error has occurred. Please save any existing work and restart the program.' |

Windows Update installed a patch last night, and so far my Outlook seems to be working, but that could be coincidence, as the patch I believe was a security patch to fix some more holes in Windows. |
|
 | that link you post just now gave me a dns error.... |
|
 | So we're NOT alone... |
