Live in warren michigan, I was an old comcast customer but their service in this area is just junk, very unstable... but the speeds were tottaly blazing when the service did work... switched to wow a few months ago, love the stability, but the speeds tottaly suck... I was wondering if anyone has an idea why, I have a white rented modem I believe its scientific alantic... I pay the ultra package I believe its called the 6 meg... heres the results I get from the speed test's I ran on the wow servers.

just got my broadband back ...game site is extremely slow now worse then a dial up in another country, misc internet fluctuates (suppose to be 12mbps)
according to misc speed tests i am running at anywhere from 1360-1760 instead of what 4000. The speed test on wow way's site stated i was at 2300, problem is the one before and after wow way's(misc sites)stated much lower! |

| Hello
I have a question in regards to the different test pages. I've have used both of the following speed tests below (i.e. i live in the cleveland ohio area), and have seen drastic differences between the two.
For example, i'm paying for the advanced plan (i.e. 4000/ 500), and using the speed test from wideopenwest i'm seeing between 800/50 to 1500/550. However, with the speakeasy test i'm seeing between 1500/450 to 4400/600.
I understand that speeds will fluctuate throughout the day depending on the amount of active users, and i may have issues in regards to my connection due to the poor performance i'm seeing, but i'm curious about these speed tests in particular for the moment.
My question is why am i seeing such drastic differences between the two? Also, which test is more accurate?
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

| reply to Jeremy341 I'm really happy with my speeds considering I don't have Ultra (but do have the phone service so I think my upload is a little better because of that).

@wideopenwest.com
| reply to Jeremy341 I had problems with advertised speeds and actual...sometimes it would be good, sometimes terrible. tech support told me to empty my cache and such to no avail. Eventually I replaced the network cable between my cable modem and my wireless router and ever since I have had advertised speeds. |

I'm in Shelby Michigan, and my speeds aren't bad at all I suppose:

Though I'd happily pay more for faster speeds. |

1 edit | reply to dmcglone01 Depends on what you are PAYING for. If I'm paying for a set speed, rather I OWN my modem or not, I should get that speend. I'm supose to be getting 6down/500kup.

Far from it. Then the little cop out that if you OWN your own modem they post on their speed page is bullcrap. That's like VZW telling you, buy your cell phone off ebay and not from us, then you won't get the same amount of minutes or your phone will drop more calls. The "pushing updates" out to modems and liability is bs too. VZW, Sprint, AT&T, they push PRL updates, software updates over the air to your phone rather you got in from Joe Online Seller or a retail store. Common WOW get your head out of your ass and give people what you say they should be getting. 2mbps less then what I'm suppose to get is unacceptable and there is NO excuse for such piss poor performance. Gotta go now, online with a rep... |
