i got cut off for a week for excessive bandwidth usage im in an ex shaw area (unionville). we probly had about 10 - 15gB download for december.. we called and the tech support guy and he wouldnt tell us what the limit was however he did say "20 times less". im like paranoid now cause the next time we get cut off, its supposed to be a permanent ban from theyre highspeed internet services..
just curious..whats the average download amount you guys do monthly? |

i used to do that on dial up. 4.5kbytes a second 24/7 will get you around 10gigs a month.
this is total bs. what good is a 3megabit connection if you cannot use it?
i now do gigs a day. |

@cable.rogers | ya..supposedly they sent us emails but we i dont even check our primary email and we got nothing through regular mail. We got an automated message on the phone shortly after they cut us off but that was about it. |

the only thing i could think of is if those gigs were done on their news servers. since it will be traveling over their own backbone, they don't incur bandwidth charges. that and news doesn't require you upload like p2p does. |

| reply to zerom I got cut off for a week for excessive bandwidth usage too.I have about 15gB download each month.I called and the tech support guy couldn't tell me what the limit was.I had canceled the service now.Since I'm not going to stop my downloads.I guess I'll just have to wait for Bell. All my friends in Scar. is using BEll.And they all do 15-20gB each month.Never got any problems. And by the way,I have seen them downloading a DIVX of 700mB in less than 3hrs.For me it'll be 10 hours at least.....:( |

| Some months i download 60GB and other months i download like 20GB or so. Never had a letter from them and if did i would tell them to go to hell because they don't even know there caps or have a over bandwidth charge system. I would drop them like flys and get DSL. I am not on Ex Shaw area and after all no point of a high speed connection if you can only download 5 gigs that id not really a lot at all. I guess 5 gigs is good if you only read emails. On the plus side I personally really happy with the service and i love the upgraded speed:D |

Customers shouldn't be putting up with this crap. |

| It all depends on how many people in your neighbourhood call Rogers to complain about slow speeds. I live in the Pharmacy + Steeles area, and I download about 50GB a month without any warnings from Rogers ever. A friend of mine who lives at Brimley + Steeles, downloads only about 15GB a month and got repeatedly harrassed by Rogers, eventually getting his account suspended. |

Excellent point.
Thanks qb ... that makes sense considering it's usually the uploads that cause the congestion on the nodes that cause a lot of the poor performance calls.
So if you don't have a lot of uploaders on your node, you may well stay below the radar!
Also, everything I've seen points to the fact that the heaviest hit are those in the ex-Shaw areas (Scarborough, Markham, Unionville, Thornhill). These are the areas with the most performance issues too. |

| reply to zerom Rogers is really ticking me off lately with their so called hispeed internet cable service for home users. Work in animation in Toronto so I require to have a fast net connection at home for file transfer (online rendering/editing) and for voip meetings with clients. Rogers advertises 3Mbps download and 384Kbps upload. Did a test on www.PCpitstop.com and my results for my Terayon Cable Crap Modem were Download = 1457Kbps @ 1AM/775Kbps @ 5PM and Upload = 315Kbps @ 1AM/260Kbps @ 5PM. When I called Rogers Support they gave me the crap line about the area I live may affect my bandwidth. So I did a test with my buddy's Sympatico Modem and in the same home I got double the bandwidth. Also another complaint is I found out Rogers charges you rental per month for your modem but doesn't list this on your billing. So I talked to a friend who works at Rogers and was told the last time he checked it was $10.00 per month = $120 per year. Buying a new cable modem is between $80 - $150. You actually save money not using their crap ass modem. There is an advantage to cable modems in that the ISP can't charge you when doing VOIP long distance calls no matter where or for how long..unlike Sympatico where the communications is going over Bell's phone lines. Now if I can only find a cheap Broadband Phone and get my 3Mbps that I pay every month for..lol. |
