Two years ago, Sprint had to credit me two months' worth of DSL service because of gateway problems in KC. And here it comes again.

PS And it's worse now then it was in Jan. '02!!

The table is for 48 hrs. The lower bar graph if for 24. This is getting really bad. Sprint had better do something quick.

Awhile ago, I got off the phone with SprintDSL and got a $20 credit for the dismal latency problems in KC with Sprintlink.

Others in MO should be doing the same to send a Big Message to Sprint that this HAS to stop.

Faustus,

This is not only happening in Missouri. I live in Kansas and I am experiencing the same issues, I believe that all of KS/MO go through that same gateway. Did the tech happen to tell you when the issue would be resolved, I opened a trouble but haven't asked about a credit yet because I didn't know how long it would last. Two of my friends are professional gamers and they haven't been able to attend any tournaments for a week now.

Today has been really bad, since about 11am this morning the internet has been unusable and my ping times are 1500ms. So as I'm posting this my connection has been screwed up for at least 6 hours today.

Please Sprint Help!!!!!

What the heck is going on it's 9am on Sunday and surfing the web is like going through the Grandview Triangle at rush hour (SLOW). I did a tracert and sl-gw9-kc-5-0-TS10.sprintlink.net 160.81.77.73 was 1676 milliseconds to me.

Did a tracert to 160.81.77.73 it was 87ms to me.

My DSL connection does use Sprint lines. But I'm with a company called Wcoil. Which is renting the lines from them basiclly.

That is maybe because you are coming from Ohio. You are on the otherside of the bottle neck. In addition the problem hasn't been that bad today. I have been getting ping rates to my third hop (the affected gateway's) of around 15ms most of the day.

Sprint will get it fixed. It is a bad enough problem I don't see how they can let it go. I mean Kansas City is where thier corporate hq is.

DSL anywhere

@va.sprint-hsd

sprint telephone including dsl -- sprint long distance -- sprint pcs -- sprint link -- are all separate companies under the umbrella of sprint ... same as a chevy, buick, olds, gmc are all separate companies under the umbrella of general motors.

the tech you talk to on the dsl help desk can't pick up the phone and call the guy at sprintlink .. i know, it should be that way but you're dealing with separate companies (a ford manager can't call a lincoln manager and tell them to get their ass in gear ..... just doesn't happen that way)

DSL Everywhere

DSL I beg to differ, Sprint Fastconnect is maintained by Sprint LTD, The Infastructure that Sprint DSL customers ride is maintained by Sprint LDD those organizations along with Sprintlink all fall within Sprint. Sprint PCS is the only (separate company according to NYSE). No the helpdesk cannot just call up Sprintlink, but the Tier II/III engineers that support DSL/Infastructure/Sprintlink all communicate. I just wanted to make it clear the Sprintlink is not Separate from Sprint.....It's all One Sprint. Oh and the same engineers that work for Sprint can just as easily pick up the phone and call Sprint PCS engineers for assistance and vice versa.

Sprint PCS is the only separate company and that is going to change soon. Actually the DSL techs can connect you with an engineer.

When I first ordered Fast Connect, the Sprint web site had told me I could get it. I order it and then was told I about a week later couldn't get it. When I asked why and was told "there is equipment between you and the CO, I asked what kind etc. They conferenced me in with a two Sprint engineers.

I would say it just depends on how hard the person at the help desk wants to work.

While I was lurking I was reading this thread with some interest, as I've had, over the last 6 years, routing issues myself.

This is taken right off Sprintlinks own website and may answer some questions on why it appears that Sprint doesn't do anything.

Note: Not every router that resolves to a hostname ending in "sprintlink.net" is owned or maintained by Sprint. Sprintlink customer routers also resolve to hostnames ending in "sprintlink.net". These routers will typically have names of the form "sl-xxx-##.sprintlink.net" where "xxx" is a Sprint internal code name for the customer, and "##" is some number. An example can be seen in hop 7 above. Customer routers are not typically maintained by Sprint, nor can Sprint upgrade any customer links or alter a customer's traffic flow or routing without an order directly from the customer. Please see Sprintlink Naming Convention for more details.

Now if you'd like to read this whole article about troubleshooting latency problems the direct URL is »www.sprintlink.net/faq/latency.html

I found it interesting that even tho the hop resolves to sprinklink.net it may not be one of Sprints owned/maintained/operated routers. If this is true, then it explains why it appears nothing is being done by Sprint.

Hey! Thanks for the input!

Someone last year pointed to that sprintlink webpage and it says the same "business-eze" that it said last year.

I know that I was promised 512/128 24/7 and I have not been getting anything near that for the last two weeks.

Sprint had taken care of the problem from Feb. '03 to Dec. '03. So why can't they take care of it now?

The answer is the same now as it was then: the lease agreement with higher-paying customers takes precedences over my "measly" 50 bucks a month.

This is definitely Sprints problem. These routers are their routers. Run a sam spade on them. I talked to a Sprint tech today and they are very aware of the problem and are trying to resolve it. Beyond that he couldn't tell me anymore.

So is Sprint going to fix this or not, we're going on two weeks of not being able to use the internet from around 6pm to Midnight and all day on the weekends. I'm going to have to purchase a dial-up account from someone so that I can use the internet. All I can say is this is $%#$'ing SAD!
