| Errors TODAY sending hotmail w/Outlook Express?
Anyone having errors right now, sending mail from Outlook Express (v6) with a hotmail account?
I know I have everything setup correctly and it has been working fine for years. I do have OE setup as an HTTP from »services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp
It will receive mail from hotmail accounts, but will not send - hasn't worked all day.

1 edit | More than 6 hours....that I know. Had not sent any hotmail emails since last week.
This is error I get - only when SENDING mind you. getting email is OK.
An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'xyz123 @ Hotmail', Server: 'h t t p://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 12019, Error Number: 0x80004005
*NOTE: I added spaces to the h t t p part above so it won't be a link here.
I did a search at M$oft site in OE area.... nothing that was my situation that I saw.

| reply to WalkGood I use hotmail every day and there are lapses in it working that I just ignore. It comes back on its own, but 6 hours is a little long. I wouldn't be surprised if it just started working later though. -- »Secret Santa a great success! Thank you everyone |

| Still no joy.
The machine in question is a WIN98 2ndEd with IE 6 and OE 6, with all updates and fixes. I also have a laptop (that I usually do not use for email, just development). It is WIN2KPro with IE 5.5 and OE 5.5 and with that machine I can SEND from hotmail accounts with no problems.
Both machines are connected to same DSL modem via same router. It just doesn't make sense.
Any ideas out there?

| reply to WalkGood I am not 100% sure but I think Hotmail is going/has started charging users a fee to use Outlook Express to retrieve email. This is just a guess since my OE stopped working a little while ago and every time I try to set it back up Hotmail leads me to a "upgrade to premium service" message. If this is incorrect please let me know. It's not important for me to use OE but I'll try setting up the accounts again. |

| reply to WalkGood Those error messages maybe caused by your account being over the limits storage wise. Transfer all sent and inbox emails to the local drive. I get those messages too and usually there is one or two large attachments that bring me over the 1 meg limit. Once the account is below the 1 meg cap, everything is fine.
If you don't use the mail on a machine you own, then you must delete the messages, but if the OE is on your machine, just moving the messages to the local drive will work. (Make a sub folder in the send file and deleted folders ect.)
Since the problem ahasn't gone away yet, perhaps it is a local problem. Perhaps set up the same account as a new account on the offending machine with a different ID name. If it works on the new account, just move the messages and delete the old one.
Also go page by page in the account properties between the one that works and the one that doesn't and make sure there are no differences like "Use a secure connection" ect that is not allowing it to send. -- »Secret Santa a great success! Thank you everyone |

| I appreciate the suggestions.
The situation just doesn't make any sense. I have compared both setups from machine to machine. Except for the fact that OE 6 doesn't work and OE 5.5 DOES work (and one is WIN98 the other WIN2KPro) they are the same.
"SOMETHING" is different on the offending machine, but I do not see what.
I even deleted the hotmail accounts from OE and added them again. Nada.
Maybe I will try openning a new hotmail acct. |

Guess I'll have to backup all my saved mail and delete OE and reinstall it. PITA.

@rr.com | reply to HRM i'm only using 2% of my hotmail, but still can't send or recieve. could this be some silent worm? |

| reply to WalkGood i just resolved the problem on my computer. when i tried windows update, i couldn't get a scan for new updates. windows sent me to their download center.
on keywords i typed "Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4)"
after downloading the 3 files included in this service pack, make sure that the last on to deploy is "msxml3usa.msi" -- that's what activates everything.
you'll probably have to restart your computer.
after restarting, in outlook express i went to tools, then accounts. under security i changed the encryption to 128 for hotmail & my main. i have cable.
GOOD LUCK:)

| reply to WalkGood Problems with Hotmail and OE? Yes indeed! The error referred to an invalid HTTP method with error 0x800CCC35 and wouldn't send emails although it would receive.
The answer turned out to be cookies. In the privacy tab of Internet Options I turned down the privacy slider to lowest and set Session Cookies in the advanced tab (an upgrade of MSIE caused the settings to change for reasons known only to itself - or maybe to Microsoft but I doubt it). I don't know which of these fixed it, but this post is for the benefit of all suffering Microsoft users who may get the same problem.

| reply to WalkGood Hi there I also have been having this error for the past couple of hours.I am not sure what is going on. I can check my hotmail by going to the site but not with OE6. All of my acounts are about 35 percent full and it just stopped working all of a suppen. I am running xp pro and OE 6. Everything worked great until today. Good luck I will let you know if I have any luck. One last thing. Do you have a PALM connected? I did install intelisync for my Palm and thought that this was the problem. Just a thought.I have no Idea. |

@adelphia.net | reply to Ken Sarkies Thanks Ken, I had the same exact problem as Walkgood with Outlook Express (v6). Setting the session cookies seems to have fixed it! |
