I uninstalled and reinstalled NAV. That appears to have solved the problem. That was just before I came back to this forum and read about deleting the certs. Oh well. Reinstalling is easier to tell someone who needs a fix.

I uninstalled and reinstalled NAV a couple times, did not solve the problem. Looking more like the certificate deal. I have expired certs as well, but after uninstalling the non-working NAV2004 left registry damage, I'm hesitant to do anything else regarding NAV.

Well, if they are expired, they are basically no good on your system anyhow. They are dead to the world and just taking up space. I might just dump them and see what happens. I have already used ghost twice in 24 hours trying to trouble shoot this, whats one more time??

Keizer

Just because "they are expired" does not apply to the Trusted Root certificates.

Warning! Do not delete any Trusted Root Certificates regardless of expiration date. You may finding yourself running System Restore.

That certainly answered a question I was about to ask. Good thing I was looking for a quote.

I guess we just stay tuned for futher info from someone from Symantac.

The two expired Certficates that others have deleted are Intermediate Certification Authorities, not Trusted Root Certificates, but I am loathe to delete even these without more guidance. This is one area in which I am real "newbie".

Anybody have a reference to info not in geek-speak?

Re: Deleting certificates

We were orginally talking about deleting expired Intermediate Certificate Authorities - not "Trusted Root Certificates" - correct??

Re: Norton Live Update Issue

Oops. I forgot that I clearer & reset "Check for publisher's certificate revocation" before reinstalling. I think there was an earlier post where someone said that removed the certificates. Therefore, I take back what I said about reinstalling. Reinstalling probably won't work.

Re: Norton Live Update Issue

I did not remove them from the Trusted Root Certification
Authorities.
I removed them from the Intermediate Certification Authorities.
I have done this on ten boxes with no problems so far.
But for the squeamish I would wait for a confirmation from
Symantec.

Re: Deleting certificates

Well, it looks like we are getting to the end of our usefulness. Looks like it is now up to Symantec to sort out this Certificate SNAFU. I would like to add something on a lighter note. Although we hate having problems with our software/hardware I truly enjoy these little sessions once they are all over. We always seem to learn so much and are able to educate each other while trying to get to the bottom of these situations. Good job to all the detectives:)

For those that are determined to remove the certificates....I would use caution by at least exporting them first.

AAAAAHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

Why didn't I find you all before I wasted all my time last night!!! I have reinstalled NAV2003 so many times in the last couple of days I thought I had a really nasty trojan. Enough people must have given up by 2am eastern this morning that I finally got through - of course most normal people went to bed to deal with it later... or checked a forum before spending 6 - 8 hours...

Let's all remember that there's no evidence that the product is actually not working. It's just moving a bit slow.

Symantec will have a fix for this in days, if not hours.

I would not suggest removing certificates at all -- Symantec will have that updated when we download the "fixed" LiveReg when it's ready.

At least we're all gaining some valuable knowledge here, and I thank you for that.

I am getting blisters on my fingers searching for information on removing expired certificates and I can not find anything rock solid. Seems to me that if this was a common industry wide practice I would be able to find specific instructions/information on removing expired digital certificates. Alas, I can not so mine are staying put!!!!!

Re: Norton Live Update Issue

There were two ICA certs that were expired on my system
Verisign Class 2 and Class 3 Public Primary
both are now updated. Just want to make sure that the Class 3 is supposed to read:
www.verisign.com/CPS Incorp.by Ref. Liability LTD.(c)97 Verisign
(Intended Purposes)
Server Authentication, Client Authentication,2.16.840.1.113730.4.1, 2.16.840.1.113733.1.8.1

Please.

Ok, I will put my ghost boot floppy away for now! But just remember Murphy, I can have it back out in under 10 seconds!
