| [IA] Mediacom and XBox Live
Anyone have any tips or tricks to setting up Live with Mediacom? I'm trying to help by bro-in-law remotely. We tried everything from directly to modem to cloning pc mac address, going through the router (it's supported). I am wondering if there is something specific to Mediacom that he has to do. I called XBox Live and they said I may have to clone the mac and change the last digit to 0 or go up '1'. Just curious if any of you had any problems or had to do a specific thing. His IP settings and DNS are always resolved; just can't connect to Live (last selection is the red X on network test via XBox). Any help = thanks. -- Ever met someone from Microsoft Q/A? ...EXACTLY! |

| You have to register the MAC address of the XBox with Mediacom. Just like with a PS2 or a new computer or router. I'd call tech support. They can help ya register the XBox. By the way if he has a PC also down the road or soon you may want to think about getting a router. -- Freedom of speech is wonderful - right up there with the freedom not to listen. | reply to dav0r looks like from the reading he has a router and has tried it through it..
through the router you should be able to simply connect and go provided you went thru the set up correctly..
ive attached some documentation on xbox set up see if that clears up anything.. -- ""I'm off to a great ..stop""~~Rodney Dangerfield |

| reply to dav0r Sorry didn't see the router mentioned heh. DUH! Half asleep when I posted. Late night last night But yeah long as there is a router then the XBox should work fine on Mediacom. No registering needed since the router is there unless the router is new as well. If the router is new and hasn't been used on the connection then it needs to be registered if it's not MAC cloning. -- Freedom of speech is wonderful - right up there with the freedom not to listen. | Thanks for the comments and the file. I actually called both Mediacom and XBox. Mediacom stated that if he's already able to connect through the router he should be fine and the problem must be with the XBox or the cabling. I'm not sure what is going on. He's used his XBox through the router to play Halo with me on xboxconnect so it appears to be network happy. I dunno. I thought it may be his cables but it resolves DNS and the IP just fine. The gateway is also correct (they're all on 'automatic'). If nothing else from what I've read from you confirms even further that if he still can't connect he needs to call XBox support. I have two live accounts and had 0 problems. I thought since I had DSL maybe this was a cable issue I was unaware of but I guess not. Appreciate it guys, have a good one. -- Ever met someone from Microsoft Q/A? ...EXACTLY! |
