XviD

New to it, and pleasantly surprised at how nice the quality is ...especially for the size Kills basic DivX

Re: XviD

Video quality most importantly depends on the source. The encoder also plays a very crucial role in the final product.

However, if you encode two AVI files with the same exact settings, the one compressed with XviD will surpass the video compressed with DivX.

EDIT: Of course, DivX fanatics will beg to differ. Avoid them at all costs.

Re: XviD

The XviDs that use Ogg for the sound are even better. IIRC, they have a .ogm extension.

I've seen people use IIRC before, but what does it stand for?

It stands for "If I Recall/Remember Correctly"

Only downside is you cant join them very easy. Vdub always throws up a fit when trying to mess with/join ogg format/VBR formatted audio.

That's why there's VirtualDub Mod. Handles VBR MP3 and OGM alike.
