Cancelled RR And im looking of a new Cable ISP
ANY SUGGESTIONS?
ah.. only ppl in my area plz cuz the reliability of the service depends a lot on the location .. ive learned.

In the vast majority of areas, there's only one cable company, so that's unlikely to happen. There's always Earthlink cable, but they run over the same Time-Warner lines as RR, so any issues you have with RR would more than likely affect Earthlink as well.

Sounds like it's time for you to look into DSL or other alternatives to cable.

I had the same problem last week but with a different result.

Intermittent packet loss, associated with changes in the upstream power. A tech was scheduled for Friday morning, arrived on time. He was stumped, called for a senior field tech, and two more showed up.

3 hours later they left. Together they found and corrected:

Wrong DC
Incorrect (and defective!) tap.
550 Mhz tilt corrector that should have been removed 6 years ago when the network was rebuilt.
Mis-adjusted amplifier

They also replaced half a dozen crimp-on F connectors with snap seals on general principles.

So, not all RR service calls turn out bad.

"if that were the problem the 2 technicians that came would have fixed it."

In a perfect world where all technicians are competent that would be true. Of course if your problem is not local there is nothing a technician can do for you. I would just keep harassing tech support with logs of your packet loss. If you only experience packet loss during prime time then it's not likely that a technician could help anything sounds more like they need to beef up their network out there.

You have no idea what you said guatra
it is really hard to convince them to fix it
Because they always believe the problem is the configuration of the PC but in many cases it is not.
If the problem were the configuration then the error would be constant or at least have some type of pattern.
I have ROADRUNNER too and after trying it all i thougt i had problems with the signal or the modem
but if that were the problem the 2 technicians that came would have fixed it.
the problem is in their network and only few users notice it because it is at certain times especially at night.
Also most applications dont need flawless connections, while others, such as online games, require an error free, stable and steady connection.
Because of that it is really hard to prove the packet loss.
There are no many chances that at the time they run their tests you are disconnected because it is always for short periods.

If they dont fix my "intermitent connection" im gonna ask them to refund my money and ill call again my previous ISP
(not as fast but stable)

Have you tried connecting your PC directly to your modem? There are dozens of things that can cause packet loss, eliminate your equipment and make road runner fix it (for free).

Yeah it goes unbearably slow sometimes, but other times it picks up and there is still a little bit of packetloss, but it goes at full speed. I have digital cable TV in the other room, not in the same room as the cable modem. I unplugged the digital cable box from the coax cable coming from the wall. I still get packetloss when not connected to the router. I connect to the wireless router with ethernet. The cable modem I use is the Toshiba PCX2600. I think there *might* be a problem with it but the lights and everything work fine. It was supposed to come with a stand because it sits vertically, but I didn't get one. Also, the splitter I gotten from the cable company as part of the self-install package, it did not work. I had to get a 2way splitter from radioshack.

Do you have digital cable TV? If so, your Road Runner signal may not work without a splitter/high pass filter. That's fairly normal, it seperates the two signals so they dont interfere. Do you get packet loss when not connected to the router? From your original post, it seems as though you dont. If that is the case, you have to remember that there are a large number of things that can interfere with a 802.11(x) signal.

What kind of modem? Does »192.168.100.1 give you any signal quality information? You said it only works through the splitter, correct?

ping -l 1024 -t google.com if that times out regularly and there is no other activity on your PC call time warner and let them know what's going on.

When using RR sometimes it goes really slow for a long period of time. I ping google.com and get about 20% packetloss (sending 50 times). I think it could be the cable line. The main cable line is split 4 ways to 4 TVs and then split in the room where I have the cable modem to the TV and the cable modem. I tried directly connecting the coax to the wall from the cable modem and it doesn't work, but when I use a splitter it does. I talk to some of my friends who also have RoadRunner in my area (Hudson Valley) and they have no problems, even my friend living less than half a mile away. I have a SMC Wireless router that the modem is connected to via ethernet and I connect from my computer to it via ethernet. I setup the primary account on the wireless router as the username/password given for my e-mail. Thanks.
