Re: santa monica Ca hdtv???

The plasma 16:9 screens are often set to "zoom" or "strech" non-HD content so the screen doesn't suffer "burn-in". This is the distortion you are seeing.

On non-HD content black bars on the sides are often visible when viewed with a 16:9. The black bars on a plasma screen don't suffer the same amount of wear that the lit portion of the screen does and after awhile the parts that are often black are noticably "brighter" in appearance.

Here's a Fujitsu document (PDF format) on the subject:

When you have a TV that supports HDTV such as a 16:9 Plasma, does the image get crunched/squashed if you watch a Non-HDTV channel? One thing I've noticed is that when I've seen regular (or digital source) broadcasts on those 16:9 TV's (Plasmas) at the TV/Video store, the image looks flattened and out of proportion height-wise. That's why I've never gotten one... Am I completely wrong on this? Or was the TV just totally misconfigured? They always seem to have the TV's at these stores on some HDTV feed that's not live, and when I've switched it to regular tv, the image looks all out of whack. Would I have that problem/scenario on Adelphia's system?
