| Changing your IP# ???
Is there any *easy* way to change your ip#?
I'm using the Surfboard 5100, Linksys Router, Windows XP Home
I've had the same IP# for quite sometime now, and for some personal reasons, I would like to get mine switched. I've gone into the linky setup, hit the disconnect/reconnect button quite a few times (each with long pauses in between up to 10 minutes before hitting reconnect)...yet it remains the same.
Any ideas? Is this even possible with Cable internet? (With DSL, I just went into the linky setup and did the above and after a few tries, it would change)
Thanks in advance!

| reply to Sandy Funny that you brought that up. Not too long ago, I hapened to ran accross a message in another forum that talked about this person who, apparently, hacked in to a website or someone else's PC. The message displayed the IP that this hacker had at that time. When I read the message, almost two months after the incident, I noticed the IP, which happened to be the same as the hacker. I guess that's due to that I have dynamic IP. Hopefully, I wont get an IP of person who's involved int illegal doings in the net, and I get blamed for it. |

| reply to Sandy I have the Linksys BEFSR41 Etherfast Cable/Dsl Router. Any ideas how/where to find the Mac Address on this one?
And yet another stupid question, where would I get the "spoofed" one as Hob mentioned. I'm assuming I add this into the router setup under "Mac Address Cloning" right?
This is all new to me and I've "googled" just about every search term possible...lol!
Thanks

| reply to Sandy What operating system are you running?
If XP do this goto start then run and type in cmd then hit enter, Type in ipconfig /all
there will be a physcial address there put that in the router under the page i gave you.
If you are running win98/ME goto start run then type in winipcfg and hit enter and then highlight the ethernet card and put that mac in there. -- "Life is like a story told by an idiot, half of it dosen't make sense, and the other half is just retarded..." (Unknown Author) |

| reply to Sandy UPDATE: Did all of the above...quite a few times too. Rebooted router, rebooted pc etc.
Using the physical address of this pc, my kids pc etc. If any sort of number is in that router page...I can't surf to any sites. It only works if it's all ZERO's.
Hmph..I'll keep poking and prodding...maybe it's just not a "do-able" thing with my setup perhaps.
If you think of anything else, please post
THANKS ALL!

| reply to Sandy I just tried myself, and it did change the IP. So, I guess I have to do this every time I want the ip to change, don't I. I only have two computers connected to my router. What happens after the second time? Can I just use any combination of number and letters to come up with a MAC address and clone on to my router??? |

@adelphia.net | reply to hobgoblin No particular reason. Just wanted to know if this would be the situation if IPs are changed at will. |
