| AN OPEN LETTER TO turbotax CUSTOMERS In response to feedback from our customers, I want you to know that we're making an important change to turbotax software and have removed activation technology.
The new turbotax for tax Year 2003 Software can be used fully on multiple computers.
Last year, some turbotax customers were inconvenienced as a result of being prevented from using the software on multiple computers. While many of you had no problem, some of you did. And that's what concerns me most.
I want to personally apologize for any frustration you may have experienced due to the restrictions that came with our use of anti-piracy technology. I've talked one-on-one with quite a few customers, so I know this caused some of you considerable hassle and inconvenience.
You told us that you want the flexibility to install and use turbotax on multiple computers, and we heard you, loud and clear. We responded back in May by committing to remove the technology from turbotax for 2003 and now, we've expanded our license agreement so you can use turbotax fully on multiple computers to do returns for yourself and members of your household. We've also made it possible for you to use your current 2002 version of turbotax fully on multiple computers.
But that's not all. We're making the things you value most about turbotax even better. The new turbotax will give you even more confidence that your return is accurate and complete. We will help you get the most from your deductions. And the new turbotax will thoroughly handle any changes going on in your life that affect your taxes.
Let me assure you that we are working harder than ever to earn your confidence and trust. This is, and always will be, of the utmost importance to us.
Sincerely,
Tom Allanson, General Manager turbotax |

I did the same thing. My "pre-sale" copy I received in the mail was aggravating to the point that I went out and got tax Cut and was surprised at the price. I may try Intuit again this year but we'll see. -- NEGATIVE...I am a meat popsicle. |

Still doesn't indicate if their programs are loaded with spyware of any kind. Although they may have removed the activation stuff, that's still a wide-open hole. I'll be going back to taxACT this year. -- 1. Peace through superior firepower 2. My feeling is that turbo tax took a really big hit this past year, and that they are still reeling from it. I hope it served as a major wakeup call to them, their competitors, and all those other software companies who are taking their customer base for granted by foisting undue restrictions, spyware, and poor service on them.
That being said, turbo tax is now probably as clean this year as it has ever been.

| Like many, I shifted to tax Cut. Frankly, absent the activation progs, I'll switch back to turbo tax in a heart beat. Much better and easier to use program. tax Cut was OK, but not nearly as intuitive and simple to get around in as TT.
I guess it goes to show that the customer is always right (for a change!).

I'm curious if anyone knows if there's been any verification of that thread's topic? (I also switched to taxCut for last year's return and find I'd prefer to go back to turbotax for this year.)

As a former tax professional, and someone who has used both turbotax and tax Cut, I can say that turbotax is a superior product. tax Cut just falls apart on returns with any degree of complexity |

| reply to jspaleta I was having trouble importing last years tax data. Last year I used taxcut. I ran in to this on their website. Looks like it will be fixed with the update.
taxCut not transferring properly into turbotax error ttxctbi.exe Intuit has discovered an issue when attempting to transfer taxCut files into turbotax. You may receive a "ttxctbti.exe" error, this error will be fixed in a turbotax update that will be available the second week of January. Exact date is not known yet, please check back for updates.
Actual error message:
"ttxctbti.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." When the dialog box is closed it says "Transfer was unsuccessful. Internal error."

| TurboTax Web doesn't import transfer Taxcut data
turbotax Web doesn't import transfer taxcut data
turbotax 2003 on the web does not import or transfer taxcut 2002 data as of 1/29/04 nor do they plan to implement such a feature. Here is part of my chat session with turbotax support. They then gave me a Tech Support Phone number to call, who then connected me to sales, who would only offer turbotax Deluxe at $34.95 without rebates which is five dollars more than store version after store rebates! I'm going back to taxCut!
You have been connected to D. Kathy. D. Kathy: Hello Pete, how may I help you today? Pete : How to transfer data or import from taxCut 2002 into turbotax Premier on the web? D. Kathy: Pete, please tell me what web product are you using? Pete : turbotax Premier Pete : VIA USAA website D. Kathy: Thank you. D. Kathy: Please give me a moment to research this issue. Will that be fine? Pete : OK, Also how do I save data from web to floppy once imported and as I go along? D. Kathy: Sure. Pete: Why is this subject so vague on the help menu and website? According to tech support a patch was made to fix this importing from taxCut problem. I assumed your web version would be corrected as well. D. Kathy: Pete, please know that web version does not contain much of the capabilities as the desktop version. D. Kathy: Pete, I am afraid, that transferring data from taxCut 2002 into turbo tax Premier on the web is not an available option. Pete: The audacity of turbotax management to not include such an import feature and then not educate all personell with probably on of the most common questions, especially for new customers is unbelievable. Then I guess I'm going back to taxcut. Would you mind forwarding this to management and asking them to reply to my concerns? Thank you for your assistance. D. Kathy: Pete, I will certainly pass this feedback to the management and see that this is not repeated in the future. D. Kathy: You can also contact us via e-mail on support.turbotax.com. Pete: I would like a special promotion code to purchase turbotax deluxe or premier to download from your website and run from my PC. Can I move program or download more than once, will it import from taxcut (should) and will the promo code provide a substantial discount for my troubles? D. Kathy: Given the situation, I would like to provide you with the best information I have. D. Kathy: Is there anything else I can help you with? Pete: What promotional code should I use to purchase and download software from your website? D. Kathy: Pete, you can simply purchase the product via shop.intuit.com. You do not need a promotional ode for the same. D. Kathy: Anything else, Pete? Pete: I do if I want a discount. Please relay this to your management and ask them what promotional code, for instance employees of Quicken , or others use to get a discount. Your web site has an option for a promo or discount code when I order.
D. Kathy: Okay, let me provide you a number where you can contact regarding this matter. Will that be fine? Pete: If they answer within 1-5 minutes. D. Kathy: 1-877-826-1922 is the number however please use the access code *******. Please use this code within 24 hours else you will get charged. Pete: Thanks,. Why don't they provide you with all the info & assistance options?
The rest is about lack of info on subject and knowledge of Intuit employees on same. It's like taxCut and taxcut clients trying to switch to turbotax do not exist to them. |

| I was curious as I have never used the web program - I pay my $46 for turbo tax Deluxe with a Free State tax download and a mail-in rebate after I e-file! IMHO find this to be a good value for an excellent tax program.
I figure by the time I pay $29.95 for TT Deluxe (after rebate from a commercial store and then $19.95 for the state prgram and another $14.95 to e file federal - I am getting more bang for my buck going with the auto re-order program I am enrolled in!
Be that as it may - I did some checking into the web based program and on the page where it gives you the choices of the different programs is a line entry that says:
Transfers data from last year's turbotax for the Web return
Sounds like pretty concise info to me! |

I didn't have a problem using turbo tax 2002, but this year it won't update or even allow me to check the internet connection. The help site takes you right to the web and I don't have any other internet connection problems. the web site help is useless as is the chat help. I'm ready to return the product and look elsewhere. Error 5?? |

| TurboTax Deluxe 2003 Internet Freeze
I've had the same problem with turbotax Deluxe 2003 (previous years are fine). The program runs okay, but any attempt to use the internet from the program causes turbotax to freeze, then produce a fatal exception 0E. Even escaping from the blue screen, any program that tries to use the internet produces the same fatal exception 0E and failure to connect. I've tried all the usual troubleshooting methods repeatedly. The knowledge base is of no help at all and online chat suggest standard actions I've already tried repeatedly. They say my problem is "unique." Apparently not. Only shutting down and restarting brings my system (Windows 98SE) back to its normal smooth running. I've disabled antivirus and firewall, uninstalled and reinstalled TT2003 after closing down all processes possible, updated it using a file from the web site, run scan disk many times and defrag twice, have tested all other programs, and none cause this problem. Anyone have a solution? |
