Because routers just "appear" as computers there is no problem with NAT...just an addition ms of latency...maybe. And unless I just had a complete brain fart the above example setup should work.
Thank you kindly for the explanation (your 2nd or 3rd edit, I think). (I started to reply a couple of times and, each time I did, your reply had more in it.)
I think I see why I had the problem and, it looks like your suggestion should work.
I did have a need to do it but, I'm not sure the need still exists any more. I was using a Hawking FR24 Dual WAN router to use both my DSL and cable connections together and needed to hook up a wireless router to it.
The dual broadband worked just fine for everything but my 3 VOIP phones which would drop the connection or start breaking up every time it tried to switch between cable and DSL. I ended up putting the VOIP stuff directly on the DSL (higher UL speed) using 1 router and the rest of the network on the cable connection using the 4 port wireless router.
I may try the setup with the Hawking again if I can find a way of limiting the VOIP to 1 single WAN connection.
Thanks again for a GREAT explanation. :):) |

I had the same problem of dropping VoIP with Vonage and my Nexland dual WAN setup. What they did for me was change the polling interval from something like 40 minutes to 5, so if I had an autofailover event, in 5 minutes the ATA would reconnect and receive calls.
Oh and yeah...I did probably 5 or 6 edits adding stuff. As I would reread it...it wouldn't make sense...not like it does not or anything -- Don't get it, demand it! The Anime Network »www.theanimenetwork.com/index.html

is the router a, b, or g spec? If it's g, then I'd be interested in NH plan as well |

Philly boy, on the Internet settings picture (second one) it shows the IP range as "192.168.0.10 through 192.168.0.14" - is this range changable? the count here is 5 address from the source router - this is probably how comcast is setting the 5 nodes by changing the back-end html config pages... |

Now that you mention autofailover. . . . I did have a lot less trouble with Vonage when the Hawking was set for that but, I wanted to get more value for my money and set the router for load balancing. . . . trouble . . . . change settings . . . . . trouble appeared to clear up for a day or 2. . . trouble again. . . . etc., etc., etc. . . . .
I finally (last night) separated the DSL and cable. Put Vonage on the DSL and use cable for internet access. So far, so good. |

Nope. The IP range is set in the firmware of the modem and is not user changeable. 5 IPs is all that you will be able to get with that combo until you stack a second router on top of that one. |

When the installer hooked it up did he enable WEP and disable SSID Broadcasting? Is that an option in the "Wireless" section? |

imrf Premium join:2002-06-06 Utica, MI | Probably not. The firmware of the router portion is controlled by Comcast via the modems firmware. |
