Well, maybe if they don't get a large enough turnout for HN, they'll start letting people use their own equipment. I would guess that most of the people willing to pay the additional bucks for HN aren't the type who will need Comcast support beyond making sure that the signal reaches the modem.

Besides - I was paying $95/mo for Pro, now i'm paying $57.95/mo for Home Networking.
PLUS - 1st 3 months are discounted to $40.95! That was a nice surprise this morning!
Thanks to Scott the tech for an awesome job this morning! The system was being stubborn and wouldn't sync with the new modem - but he stuck it out - got my account rebuilt, and BAMM!

There's the difference. I have not been paying for Pro, only the standard package (I felt/feel that Pro was too high priced).
Since you were able to cut costs by going to HN, it certainly made sense to do so. I would be paying more to upgrade to HN. I'm willing to pay more but, I am totally unwilling to be forced to buy/rent equipment that I don't need and I certainly don't want them monkeying with my existing network setup.
Enjoy your savings. | |

I would pay for the HN to get the speeds if there was a way I could use my own equipment in conjunction with there's....the only thing I need to have control of is port forwarding, for the different services I use on my different machines.

| Re: Home Networking is ON! Yes, but when I was a CHSI subscriber I didn't have the HN plan, I had two of my own routers coming off the rented cable modem with a silver subscription. (I did the silver-pro-silver tango, but that was before I had both routers)
On Comcast, I eventually had: Surfboard 4100 (rented) to Cisco 1605-R (used for traffic shaping, has only 1 port) to US Robotics 8000 (NAT with 4 ports, a com port for a dialup modem, and a printer port)
But then I ditched the Surfboard+CHSI and replaced it with a WIC+T1.
I'm guessing you could have the same sort of configuration with Comcast's modem/router combo, but I have no idea which features of their router Comcast allows you to configure. Hopefully JeepMatt will shed some light tonight.

the technical reason is this. We only created config files for the BEFCMUH. Cabledata will not let a rep provision a modem that is not that with the HN config files since config files only exist for that specific modem.
Q:Can we make more cfgs? A:Yes it takes 2 seconds...
Q:will comcast make them? A.not likely.
Q:Can a smart rep provision your modem with the BEFCMUH's config file even if you don't have a BEFCMUH and they want to be extremely nice? A:Yes, but not all modems will accept the file due to some proprietary TLV's in it -- Forum Posts:3504
