| Upload Increase Rumors.....
I got this Message from someone yesterday:
"I wanted to let you know that you will very soon be getting 512kbps upload with Road Runner. When I paid my bill yesterday, the local office confirmed this and said we should have it for a Christmas present."
That would be nice, would it not? I have asked TWC about it, but have not gotten a reply yet. -- »www.deanforamerica.com - You have the power to make a change! Support Howard Dean 2004 |

Then we do a dance and go around in circles. :P
Lets just hope the systems don't start bogging down even more. -- ISPs: Road Runner/Powerlink Status: Road Runner |

| I'm the person that maartena quoted. I'm in Hawaii and we tend to get TW things before most other areas so all I know is that when I went to pay my RR bill the local office workers told me it was definite that we are getting this increase and that they hoped the Hawaii RR network would have it by Christmas. That doesn't mean New York or other areas will get it then and my office wasn't absolutely positive it would be by Christmas anyhow, but they think so. It won't be done all at once here as it might crash the network to reboot all modems simultaneously so they will boot the modems in groups over a period of several days. I hope all RR franchises getit as a Christmas present as that would be a very nice present! -- "Everything can be taken from a man or woman but one thing: the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's destiny." | I see no positive point to increasing the upload from 384K to 512K. All I see is negatives pretty much. Considering the envirnoment we are in regards to P2P/filesharing they should reduce the upload, not increase it.
On top of it we cannot host servers on a residential RR account.Sure there is some folks who update their websites hosted on 3rd party webservers, or have other legitimate purpose for uploading stuff whom would benefit from this upgrade. But largely its negatives outweight the positives. -- Forum Posts: 1240 |

Wrong. Better latency is what games want/need. Faster upload speeds do NOT assure better latency. In fact, it may bring the opposite if people actually use this increased upload and it places extra burden on routers and other equipment. When they get overloaded, latency increases, and gamers (everyone, in fact) suffer. -- -= Mindspring MaxDSL via Covad 1536/384 TeleSurfer Pro =- |

There's always dial-up if you don't like more speed, As for my self, I could use it as I collaborate with a team for game add-ons, and there is a alot of transferring of content. I really fail to see what speeds have to do with the legality of p2p/file-sharing apps, I Don't care, TW don't care, and probably the majority of this forum don't care, with the exception of a few |

There is a direct conection between possibly increasing the upload speed and P2P apps.Unless you have been living in a cave for the last 6 months there has been a lot of legal activity in regards to people illegally sharing copyrighted material on P2P. With this possible upload increase, now its potentially more easier for P2P users to share [Questionable] files.
I can see the connection here and it boggles my mind why you fail to see the connection. Why would I go back to dialup.. I fail to see your point. -- Forum Posts: 1240 |

Yes that is what I'm saying.Frankly they should reduce upload to 128K in my honest opinion, not increase it to 512K. But who cares what my opinion is frankly. -- Forum Posts: 1240 |

No, I haven't been in a cave, I assure you this, But you seem to be insinuating that the new speed will only be used for "questionable" content, Thing is, Anyone in the know dumped Kazaa and similar p2p apps and went underground as leaches, So your point about the negative effects of the speed seems moot, at best. I guess I'm trying to say, is Technology moves on, weather it's used for illegal or not. It does everyone Good, the "pirates" are happy ( as well as paying customers to the ISP) and the "legitimate" use users are Happy, So what do you see negative about it? bear in mind this is about RR giving more bang for the buck, Not about pirates, If You like paying more for less, hey more power to you |
