I used to see the logo flash in ie's status bar when switching sites but I no longer do.
Is that component "script checker"?
If so I don't see it in "tasks" (see ss) should it be there?

Yes. The flashing "K" is the script checker. I don't know about the Control Center, but the script checker is not accessible from the Monitor, Updater or Scanner interface. I think it is a component which you can install or uninstall if you want to enable/disable. The script checker file is Klif.sys, and is located on Windows/System32 - at least in XP -.

I've never run KAV resident {NAV is my resident AV}; but others here have commented that this indeed is the sript checker at work. -- "But now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." (1 Cor. 13:13) |

Yes.. And here is where logic comes into place (no offense). As you said yourself, it's component. Go to components tab and see if scriptchecker is there etc. |

Yup, sort of.
Go to add/remove software, click modify KAV. You will see if script checker is installed or not, you can also add it via this method instead of reinstalling. |

| reply to Nam Vet There is another way...
Install script checker. You can do this when first installing KAV, or by going into Add/Remove Programs, running the "uninstall" for KAV, and selecting the "Modify" option. At that point, script checking will be enabled, and will operate invisibly.
To disable it, you can simply go into Device Manager, select View > "Show hidden devices", then right click the "Klif" entry, and select Disable. Reboot, and the KAV script checker is inoperable. (Don't bother trying to stop the driver; it won't work.) To bring it back, repeat the same steps in Device Manager, except (of course) select Enable instead.
Obviously, you can also "enable" and "disable" the KAV script checker by installing or removing it (per the "Modify" option mentioned above). However, using Device Manager is much easier. To make it easier still, use the freeware utility ServiWin from NirSoft. ServiWin makes it very easy to change the startup type of any driver or service. (Just make sure you note that the default startup type for Klif is "System", for when, if ever, you change it back.) |

@arttechusa.com | reply to Nam Vet To check if Script Checker is working;go to the KAV install folder and click on "eicar.html".
The Script Checker window should open.
Eicar.html is a file for checking Script Checker. |
