Incompletes in WI (or more) newsfeeds?

Seems like over the last 24 hours the Milwaukee area newsfeed really went to shit. About 98% of the files are incomplete, in just about every group as far as I can tell. Anyone else running into this problem? Hope its just temporary.

Here in San Diego, some posts have not come through and others have. I have to rely on my 50mb/day free astraweb account and the inpenitrable biggulp to get needed files. Its really a pain, b/c theres always something i need to d/l :P

Yep. Here too in Northeast Ohio the news-feeds have gotten progressively worse over the last few days. I'm gonna give it another week and if things don't improve, I'll try my luck with customer support. (not overly optimistic)

I completely gave up on customer support of any kind years ago. As for rr, dsl is starting to look better every day. If I have to pay seprately for usenet its really going to kill any other advantages I get from cable.

reply to winter0mute
It appears that everything got better almost exactly at 10am today. Hows everyone else doing?

Guys, its time to accept the facts:

RoadRunner's binary newsgroups stink, and they will continue to stink into eternity.....

I've heard complaints about incomplete binary newsgroups for a few years now, so it is my humble opinion that since they haven't fixed it yet, they will never gonna fix it.

Time to leave it be, move on. Try Giganews or any other commercial usenet provider. Its still a lot cheaper then having to buy the DVD's, buy the CD's or subscribe to the porn websites

Err...They HAVE fixed it in the past.

All of 2003 has been great for RRs usenet, 90%ish completion and 2 day retention. It just started to go bad last week.

reply to winter0mute
I've had RR for 6 months are so now, and have had no complaints about usenet up until now, other than the short retention, which is really no big deal for me. And ya its going on and off for me now too.

If this is permanent obviously I won't have any other choice than to subscribe to a commercial provider, but up until now I've had no reason whatsoever too. Unfortunately this also means I no longer have any reason to recommend RR to anyone.

reply to winter0mute
I just checked the WI RR network status page, and news status is read (a little less vague than our nation's terrorist alert color codes), with this statement: "Road Runner is currently experiencing an issue with the newsgroup service Subscribers in the affected area(s) may experience trouble downloading groups from "news-server" or experience Partial Binaries at this time. Our engineers are working quickly to resolve this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause"

So at least they are doing something, or at bare minimum appear to give a flying f*ck, which is certainly better than nothing.

According to my status page, there is a "Planned Maintenance" for November 4th for the news servers.

reply to winter0mute
Ya, the 4th 12am-6am. However things seem to be a bit better for the past 20 hours or so for me.
