| Occasional Ping spikes to gateway
Latency has been really good lately but as of today I've started to notice occasional spikes. Excellent is around 8-11ms to the gateway and this is consistent. But I'm recording infrequent spikes up to 200ms and this lasts for a few minutes. For instance, 12:00pm, 3:00pm, 5:00pm yesterday and then the next just now at around 10:20am this morning.
It's weird. What could be causing this since it's so inconsistent? It stops my Internet radio stream dead for a couple of seconds and that's what clued me in...then I checked my mrtg graphs to confirm.
As an aside: my upstream is still great (used to get 120kbps consistently, now get between 230 and 240kbps) but my upstream is still way below the cap (at around 1000kbps). It's too bad, because I would be looking at upgrading to the 4000/512 tier but it's not worth it at $90 (or whatever it is without cable) if it's only going to improve my upstream. |

| I've had the exact same problem for over a year now. Some weeks it happens all day long, others it happens once a week or once a night.
I must have put in dozens of tickets and calls on that and it appears to be corrected now, so if it helps I documented all my pings and traceroutes with screenshots of the command window as well as cut and pasting them into notepad and attached all those into emails to the tech I was speaking with on the phone. If the situation is the same it took awhile for anyone to believe it was even happening because from the natl level they couldn't see anything wrong.
doesn't mean your situation is the same however - just providing some things you can do in case it is. |
