I'm giving this 4000/512 deal a try here...it doesn't seem like it's going to be worth it with all the latency added since we were routed to Buffalo...if you live in N.E. Pa., I wouldn't bother with it until we get off this route...hopefully somebody can tell us if there is a plan or not. |

It AIN'T the route to Buffalo man, this is Misinformation. The extra 35ms of latency you now see is coincidental, and the issue is already with traffic Engineers. But I gotta tell ya...35 extra milliseconds aint gonna raise a whole lot of eyebrows.
The fact that you only BEGAN to notice the latency AFTER being moved to a (REALLY) Fat Pipe to buffalo only speaks to the fact that Scranton was seriously in need of the Bandwidth Upgrade. You live in a very RURAL area, rugged and mountainous, OUTSIDE of Scranton proper. Data transport options to these rugged rural areas are Limited. Options for your area are being examined, but considering it's only an extra 35 ms, it really aint a very high priority, compared to serious needs elsewhere.
Please, STOP blaming this brand new, and VERY fat pipe to Buffalo. -- Join the NAVY, see the world....It's mostly water! |

| reply to RoacHJumper Stop blaming the Fat Pipe to Buffalo??? Hmm, funny, when we were on the what...skinny?...pipe to Philly pings were AWESOME!
Also, I'm not sure about anyone else that remembers the Philly Connection, I had anywhere from 2-4 LESS Hops to any site I went to. Never had 21 hops to DSLreports, not to mention getting sent out to the WestCoast to get back to the EastCoast.
I've learned to accept the issue, and just deal with the "higher" pings, and not complain about it, but quit assuming that we don't know how good it was and how good it SHOULD be.
Scranton's Bandwidth Upgrade was done PRIOR to the move to the Buffalo line and that is when we were being peered out of Philly. Speeds were great, pings were great, everything was great UNTIL the move to Buffalo. Under those conditions, THAT is why we are "assuming" the issue with the Fat Pipe to Buffalo.
Scranton is bigger than most outsiders realize, and considering the amount of people and traffic for Scranton and the SURROUNDING areas you would think that Adelphia would consider looking into the routing/peering issue WHEN they are finished with the "more important" things.
Moscow, Clarks Summit, Taylor, Moosic, DUREYA, Hamlin and many other areas around Scranton are on this Fat Pipe to Buffalo...maybe it's time we got our own. (Only dreaming...only kidding)
Speeds are still good...but being a Clan Leader (Created =DTM= in UT/UT2003 4 years ago) it would be nice to play with friends and foe on a more level ping ground. (Even tho I manage well with 100-120 pings).
YES, in today's day and age, 30-50 ms ping in the FPS games DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE. (AA, UT/UT2003, MoHAA, BF1942, Q3, Doom3...the list goes on) Anyone that plays those games will tell you the same thing (well, except for ZeroPing mutator in UT...which sucks for BroadBand users anyway)
'Nuff said...I'm going to work. |

A gentleman once took an Army out of a fight, moved them a couple hundred miles ( while still fighting ) thru inclimate weather and rescued an airborne division at Bastone in less then 4 days. 300ms wouldn't have bothered them.
I bet half those complaining wouldn't even know who this great gentleman was.

| reply to JacksGhost The Battle of the Bulge, late 1944, Hitler's last big attempt at pushing the Allies out of Europe. The commander of the forces at Bastone when sent a request by the German command to surrender, replied simply "Nuts". The general that rescued them? That would be General George S. Patton and his 3rd Army, a great military man, though with a lacking in social skills My favorite general of the war was Omar Bradley, great military mind, and more cool headed Needless to say, the offensive by the Germans failed, and well, the rest is history as they say, Japan and Germany lost the war, and zooooom, here we are today. Sometimes true. But the one with the lower ping gets the jump on those with the strat and skill.
Now... If you have the Strat and Skill with a great Ping, then your gold ! |

All the strategy and skill you have can be negated by high levels of ping. With several years of gameplay experience,I have gotten used to dealing with lag during gameplay. But the best games are when pings are below 100.My Adelphia connection has seldom pinged below 200,my hope is with the migration and upgrades things will improve!

Where do you get at saying Adelphia doesn't care, WHAT have we been doing the past year, rebuilding the entire network!
There were a ZILLION fires to be attended to, MUCH has already been done, but much work still remains! It HAS to be prioritized, because there are only SO MANY HOURS Available in a day!
The 35ms on your 1st hop (yes, I was there today, and traced to DSLREPORTS, and Picked up 35 on the very 1st hop), is NOT forgotten, it is just NOT as High a priority as OTHER issues still remaining.
I don't know if Adelphia can set aside MAJOR projects so you can get better scores when you Play on-line? I do know this tho, The Issue is known, and cost effective solutions are being examined.
I QUOTE MY 1st Post: "the issue is already with traffic Engineers"
I stand by my statement, The Issue is LOCAL and NOT the route to Buffalo
You're Spreading Misinformation and jumping to Conclusions. [text was edited by author 2003-10-16 21:20:01] |

they should wave a magic wand and instantly solve all network problems? It takes time, smoetimes a long time. It's also VERY expensive.
