 Westell wirespeed vs SpeedStream 5100?

I have been on SBC since 1999. Still using the old westell wirespeed.

My question is, will upgrading to the SpeedStream 5100 help my connection in any way?

Right now i'm capped at 768/256 @ 12'000 feet from CO. You can imagine i lose sync time to time. I deal with it, 384 is just ridiculous for 60.00 a month.

Thanks for any advice..

Go on a promo, get the speeds for almost half that.

Westell is rumored to do better on long loops so I highly doubt changing modems would help, unless the Westell is defective to start with.

I found the packages.

SBC Yahoo Basic- up to 384/128 max distance 16000 ft
SBC Yahoo Standard Plus 384-1.5/128 max distance 12000ft
SBC Yahoo DSL Deluxe 768-1.5/256 max distance 9000 ft
SBC Yahoo DSL Expert Plus 1.5-6/384 max distance 7500 ft

I was wondering since i'm reported at 12000 feet away, if i renew with a promo. Will they take me back down to basic upload because i'm so far away?

that depends on your real distance and the EPC rep....since you already have existing service, they should just re-rate you.

If you re-rate only they should not adjust the package that you are on. 888-884-2375 is the number that I recommend calling for EPC (the department that works the order).
