it gave me this message when i type in sfc /scannow

window file protection could not initate a scan of protected system files the specific error code is 0x000006ba[the RPC server is unavailable.]

I was planning to reformat but reinstalling might be a good idea. If i was to reinstall window would all the files and setting be intact?

Theoretically yes..try a repair installation first.

I suggest backing up data files first if at all possible.

Does W2K have a last Known good option on boot using F8?

I am going to go try that right now.

Yea i tried the last known good boot option but had no luck.

Could I reinstall win2k in safe mode or should i do it in dos?
