| reply to Mrdredd Re: Speeds Crawling in SouthFL
33413 I've been having slow download speeds (93kpbs) for the past week and a half. I've contacted Adelphia half a dozen times and it's always the same story. "We're having some technical trouble in your area, try again within 24 hours." Now this morning, my download speed has dropped to 63kpbs. I once again contact Adelphia for a status and ETA and they say they are still having difficulties and have no timeframe for when it will be corrected.
As I see it, there are two scenarios here:
1. The Adelphia "network engineers" don't know what they're doing. Having worked myself as a network engineer for a large network, I know that network connectivity and uptime is your top priority to your customers and/or users. Giving this type of slow service to network users with no ETA and end in sight would get you fired quicker than the time it takes for a Cisco router to reboot!
2. Adelphia isn't telling us what's really going on. I know some people will point to the upgrade e-mail Adelphia sent last week, but I find it hard to believe that the upgrades would be affecting my download speeds for such a long period of time. Also, I started having problems a week before Adelphia even decided to send that email. Thus, if the upgrades are at fault, then someone screwed up because they didn't warn us customers that there was going to be some work done that could cause some network interruption and degragation.
Sorry about the long rant, but it's just extremely frustrating when you pay so much for broadband access and get stuck with near modem speeds. I am frankly shocked at how Adelphia treats it's Powerlink customers. If DSL was offered in my area, I would not hesitate to change my service, at least after this fiasco. But hopefully, this problem or "upgrade" will get resolved soon and we can put this whole nasty ordeal behind us. |

Believe me the "Network Engineers" know exactly what is going on. However you never get to speak to them! Adelphia has told you that there is a very large upgrade going on, every modem on the Network has been moved to a new provisioning platform. Believe me this is NOT a job that could be carried out by people that don't know what they are going. It is an enormous job. Having said that until the upgrade is complete and the individual issues are sorted out there is a great deal of smoke covering normal issues. Is the provisioning change going to fix CABLE issues at the street or house level? There is issues out there that are being masked by the provisioning platform change, this may be one of them.
Adelphia asked for patience until the network issues were complete and it could then use the new platform for what it is designed for...looking for local area issues.
I understand your frustrations however.

| reply to Mrdredd Just to give a scope or 'rough idea' of whats going on and some 'numbers'.
Every cable modem has a device that uses a 'public IP'. One in 4 households have a home network.
There are currently close to 1,000,000 adelphia power link users. Theres some 1.25million devices on this network.
If each region moved has only a 3% failover rate... think ofthe number of devices and how much trafic is generated buy this in both calls to the Tac and messages on here.
*I* am surprised things have gone as well as they have. That 3% is actually an inflated number by most calculations of call volume and postings.
A million IP network moved to a totally different platform in such a short time.. Picture having a million computers and having to reboot them all.. LOL!
Sincerely, jAX. |

| reply to Mrdredd So im screwed with my 12KB download until atleast next year?
Its the 15th, the upgrades are finished, and my download speed is still only 3KB faster than a damn 56k. and pings are in the 800's most of the time.
Is there gonna be a fix for this SOON as in a couple days, or do I need to drop adelphia, this is bullshit to say the least. -- RackSmart.net |

I just got off the phone with an Adelphia support rep. It appears they are having trouble with excessive line noise on the equipment servicing our area.
No ETA
It's also not listed on the Powerlink network status page. |

| reply to Mrdredd Hi neighbors in Lake Worth and West Palm. I live in a community of 1600 homes recently upgraded to Powerlink 2way. Since October 8, download speeds have gone to the same level as yours (101 kbps)> I have talked to at least 8 neighbors who are seeing the same performance as you. Here are my speed test results: 2003-10-14 14:00:09 Speed test (ec) 101/244 kbps
2003-10-13 22:55:19 Speed test (mia.speakeasy.net) 100/246 kbps
2003-10-13 13:27:03 Speed test (dslreports.linkline.com) 102/248 kbps
2003-10-12 15:51:00 Speed test (mia.speakeasy.net) 101/119 kbps
2003-10-09 18:20:48 Speed test (dslr-west1.megapath.net) 76/119 kbps
2003-10-09 13:38:19 Speed test (dslr-west1.megapath.net) 31/117 kbps
2003-10-04 13:29:58 Speed test (dslreports.linkline.com) 2810/66 kbps Notice speed on Oct.4 and then after Oct.8. You can also see when the upload speed went to 248 kbps. It sure looks like a localized network problem given the geography of our three cities. If anyone from Adelphia sees this, it would be great to hear your opinion or suggestions. |

| reply to Mrdredd Here in Boynton Beach it appears that at 2:00 AM we got a new gateway address and a new subnet. Speed after nine days is up to 1800/245 kbps. It would have been nice if once during this period someone from Adelphia had said that "Yes, there is a problem and we are working on it." But, thanks to those who finally fixed it. |

Seems for me I'm getting 3000/128 with no problem. I have already been upgraded to the new adelphia servers with a new IP address, but still waiting for the 3000/256 upgrade. |

I really wish Adelphia would have posted this problem on their network status page! It would have countless calls to Adelphia and computer/modem reboots. |
