Speeds Crawling in SouthFL

Area code 33467

What is up?

Ever since this afternoon I cant get more than 13kilobytes download its friggin killin me man.

Is it because of the updates? My email didnt say anything about speed reductions until they were finished upgrading... i was expecting downtime.

Any help?
I ran a couple tests before as well, and they were really slow.. my upload seemed normal though.

Well you could always just turn your pc off and pretend your having downtime. heh... actually Im not sure what thats about. I don't recall anything that would be making that happen. But I have been wrong, and most likely am.

You might have to move a little further south . In Boca Raton, I've been consistently better than 2800 / 120. Just ran a test remotely (Remote Desktop into my home machine - which by itself is a bit of a bandwidth hog), and got this. These tests are to Speakeasy, CA.

Speeds are nice as usual in Royal Palm. In the email I received about upgrades, the following was stated:

"To facilitate this exciting change for Power Link customers, there are some upgrades required in the Adelphia network. While we do not expect these changes to have an impact to the vast majority of customers, some customers may be impacted."

Just a thought

Same problem here in Boynton Beach. Downloading at a crawling 101 Kbits/sec. Prior to toady I have been consistently averaging 2200 kbits/sec.

What is the download/upload "cap" now for South Florida. Is it 3000/128 or 3000/256?

Right now, my connection speed says 3000/128.

Second day with painful performance of less than 100 kbits/sec download speeds. There are at least 8 other homes in this Boynton Beach community that are experiencing the same poor performance for the past 2 days. Adelphia does not acknowledge any network problems. At least 3 of the customers have contacted 2nd level Adelphia support.

I will wait a few more days before switching back to DSL

im not too bad. cept to east coast

Your download speed : 1588011 bps, or 1588 kbps.
A 193.8 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 118518 bps, or 118 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

Got this e-mail yesterday:

Dear Adelphia Power Link Customer,

We value your business and understand that many of you have an increasing appetite for online content, email and all the benefits of our high-speed internet service. We were pleased to announce last week that we will be increasing the speeds available to our Power Link high-speed internet customers to up to 3 megabytes-per-second downloads and up to 256 kilobytes-per-second uploads. Your Power Link pricing will not change as a result of this service enhancement!

To facilitate this exciting change for Power Link customers, there are some upgrades required in the Adelphia network. While we do not expect these changes to have an impact to the vast majority of customers, some customers may be impacted. If you are impacted, you may experience higher than normal wait times on the Technical Support line. We apologize for any inconvenience.

We expect to have the network upgrades complete by October 15, 2003.

Thank you in advance for your patience while we work to deliver this exciting service enhancement.

Sincerely,

Adelphia Communications

Re: Speeds Crawling in SouthFL

I havent used BT at all, but any P2P program has alot of room for slow-fast speeds. Depends on who you are getting it from, thier connection, how many people are getting the same file, are you uploading the file at the same time (which I think BT does) etc.

So stuff like that can be dependant on alot of things.

I could be wrong on BT, I havent really ever looked at it, so feel free to correct me

Well I just came down to Boca for the weekend and speeds are still maxing out at 3Mb.

I also see Adelphia completely changed our channel lineup here. Every channel is different now. I'm guessing they hooked our system up to their main headend in Palm Beach or is it Delray?

There are at least 7 Powerlink customers here at Hunters Run in Boynton Beach, Fl. that have been constantly experiencing 101 kbps (that's kilobits per second.)download rates since October 8th. Does anyone from Adelphia monitor this thread?

I've been having slow download speeds (93kpbs) for the past week and a half. I've contacted Adelphia half a dozen times and it's always the same story. "We're having some technical trouble in your area, try again within 24 hours." Now this morning, my download speed has dropped to 63kpbs. I once again contact Adelphia for a status and ETA and they say they are still having difficulties and have no timeframe for when it will be corrected.

As I see it, there are two scenarios here:

1. The Adelphia "network engineers" don't know what they're doing. Having worked myself as a network engineer for a large network, I know that network connectivity and uptime is your top priority to your customers and/or users. Giving this type of slow service to network users with no ETA and end in sight would get you fired quicker than the time it takes for a Cisco router to reboot!

2. Adelphia isn't telling us what's really going on. I know some people will point to the upgrade e-mail Adelphia sent last week, but I find it hard to believe that the upgrades would be affecting my download speeds for such a long period of time. Also, I started having problems a week before Adelphia even decided to send that email. Thus, if the upgrades are at fault, then someone screwed up because they didn't warn us customers that there was going to be some work done that could cause some network interruption and degragation.

Sorry about the long rant, but it's just extremely frustrating when you pay so much for broadband access and get stuck with near modem speeds. I am frankly shocked at how Adelphia treats it's Powerlink customers. If DSL was offered in my area, I would not hesitate to change my service, at least after this fiasco. But hopefully, this problem or "upgrade" will get resolved soon and we can put this whole nasty ordeal behind us.

A Groovydude ranted

"As I see it, there are two scenarios here....

Believe me the "Network Engineers" know exactly what is going on. However you never get to speak to them! Adelphia has told you that there is a very large upgrade going on, every modem on the Network has been moved to a new provisioning platform. Believe me this is NOT a job that could be carried out by people that don't know what they are going. It is an enormous job.
Having said that until the upgrade is complete and the individual issues are sorted out there is a great deal of smoke covering normal issues.
Is the provisioning change going to fix CABLE issues at the street or house level?
There is issues out there that are being masked by the provisioning platform change, this may be one of them.

Adelphia asked for patience until the network issues were complete and it could then use the new platform for what it is designed for...looking for local area issues.

I understand your frustrations however.

Just to give a scope or 'rough idea' of whats going on and some 'numbers'.

Every cable modem has a device that uses a 'public IP'. One in 4 households have a home network.

There are currently close to 1,000,000 adelphia power link users. Theres some 1.25million devices on this network.

If each region moved has only a 3% failover rate... think ofthe number of devices and how much trafic is generated buy this in both calls to the Tac and messages on here.

*I* am surprised things have gone as well as they have. That 3% is actually an inflated number by most calculations of call volume and postings.

A million IP network moved to a totally different platform in such a short time.. Picture having a million computers and having to reboot them all.. LOL!

Sincerely,
jAX.

So im screwed with my 12KB download until atleast next year?

Its the 15th, the upgrades are finished, and my download speed is still only 3KB faster than a damn 56k. and pings are in the 800's most of the time.

Is there gonna be a fix for this SOON as in a couple days, or do I need to drop adelphia, this is bullshit to say the least.
