Colorado Springs, CO Upgrade

Spoke with a tech last night that said on the 12th of October.

Just FYI.

@adelphia.net

I also received the 12th from them. I'm in Fountain and they told me on countless occasions that I would not be able to receive hdtv for another 3 months. I went to the local office yesterday and they told me all I needed was the hd receiver. Brought it home and it's working great. I just hope they are right about the date for the new speeds. I can't wait to have 512k up.

@adelphia.net

I just received this email.

Dear Adelphia Power Link Customer,

We value your business and understand that many of you have an increasing appetite for online content, email and all the benefits of our high-speed internet service. We were pleased to announce last week that we will be increasing the speeds available to our Power Link high-speed internet customers to up to 3 megabytes-per-second downloads and up to 256 kilobytes-per-second uploads. Your Power Link pricing will not change as a result of this service enhancement!

To facilitate this exciting change for Power Link customers, there are some upgrades required in the Adelphia network. While we do not expect these changes to have an impact to the vast majority of customers, some customers may be impacted. If you are impacted, you may experience higher than normal wait times on the Technical Support line. We apologize for any inconvenience.

We expect to have the network upgrades complete by October 15, 2003.

Thank you in advance for your patience while we work to deliver this exciting service enhancement.

Sincerely,

Adelphia Communications

Typo in email they sent us?

3 megabytes-per-second downloads?
256 kilobytes-per-second uploads?

Shouldn't it be megabits & kilobits?

DLing at 3 megs a second would be cool though

I live in Rockrimmon up in the north, and I have seen 3 different Adelphia trucks installing fiber optics on the side of the roads this past week. Could this be from the upcoming upgrades?

I wouldn't recommend getting the 4000/512. I don't know anyone in Colorado with Powerlink that averages over 2500 down. So even with the new caps, you'll still get the same service. However, if you are hitting 3000 consistently, go for the 4000 pack

Isn't this the purpose of the tier upgrade??

Colo Spgs Upgrade

Anyone have their connection throttled back to 2000/256 in this town? i'm still running at approx 2000/128 or so - the speed might be in arrears anyway since I keep getting conflicting reports from the speed tests and the downloading of files via the web (speed test shows 1600 down on average, but download shows 260-280 on average) - but the upload remains the same, maybe it's because I have a different firmware on my Surfboard 5100 modem that I had flashed from my old service with Cox. Let me know on what kind of service you guys are getting currently during the upgrading process.

Re: Colorado Springs, CO Upgrade

Colorado, along with us here in Nor Cal, as well as Idaho, Washington, Montana and Arizona (AKA the Western Region to Adelphia) will all be upgraded to 3000/256 by next Wed, we're the last region to get the 256 upload upgrade. We are also still running at 3000/128 here in Nor Cal.

You will be moved to the new platform...I agree. I may not agree that you will have the new speeds by then, much like others have moved but are not yet seeing the increase in upload. Please do not jump the gun.

I'm not, just reporting what the email said I read it as saying that all upgrades will be done by next Wed, barring any problems or unforseen circumstances (I added that part), which I know as a tech can happen at any time.

" We were pleased to announce last week that we will be increasing the speeds available to our Power Link high-speed internet customers to up to 3 megabytes-per-second downloads and up to 256 kilobytes-per-second uploads....

Let me explain.

The E Mail says that the company will be increasing speeds. To facilitate that there are upgrades to the Network. These Upgrades "TO THE NETWORK" will be finished by the 15th October. It does NOT say that all areas will have increased speeds by that date.

Speeds will be adjusted for existing customers on an area basis and could take to the end of the year.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

The end of the year? They really need to make that more clear in the email, it doesn't indicate that at all. I don't mind waiting, maybe they shouldn't have put a date in the email, because I know people are going to expect a lot come next Wed, and I really don't want to be tech support when the calls come in complaining about no upgrades. I will be patient, as I understand these things, but you know as well as I that most people will just get mad and take it out on the poor, innocent techs who had nothing to do with it.

Hate to say it man this but I read it the same.

I know better, but it does say the UPGRADES will be done by the 15th. One can only assume the UPGRADES will allow for the INCREASED speeds they first mention.

If that's not what they mean, they need to be a little less cryptic.

Every broadband user is absolutely impatient and expects things yesterday. If you tell them one thing in BLACK AND WHITE, you better mean it.

I read that as they are acknowledging the inconvenience to some customers that may be affected by down time caused by the upgrades and are giving a date when the upgrade "outages" can be expected to be over.

I read it differently. I hate to disagree with you, but if that is Adelphia's intention by this letter, they have mucked it up royally.

Lets just say after the server migrations are completed in an area, the new speeds are available, check some of the other threads on this board and you will see I write the truth. Available doesn't mean you will have it right away though. After the servers are changed its a matter of reprovisioning every preexisting customer's modem to the new speeds.

FIRST priority though is migrating all the Adelphia regions to the new servers and getting all the bugs and problems that causes worked out, again if you peruse this board you will see that the migration hasn't been as smooth as Adelphia would have liked....

Please be patient, huge changes are happening right now and everyone is working very hard at getting it done right.

I'm patient, I can wait for everything to get fixed, but people do get a little anxious when they get an email with the words "upgrades" "256k upload" and "no extra charge"
