ya thats true, a 622 Mbps upstream will send a whole dvd in like 10 minutes. And a 1.2 Gbps downstream can receive one in about 2 mins..God i want this connection

Re: fiber to the pole/premesis

these speeds are awesome, but I doubt it will cost the same as your current cable modem bill

Exactly! How much will this cost?

It's highly unlikely that they will be offering their customers 1.2gb x 622mb data connections. The cost of the backhaul to the Internet backbone would be enormous. Most places on the Internet can't send you information that fast anyway.

On the FiberPath 500, the 1.2gb x 622mb is shared among 32 households per fiber run. That bandwidth must carry voice, data and video to all the attached customers. If you consider 3 tv's per house and each one watching an HDTV signal(in the future), then that bandwidth goes away real quickly.

That said, the FiberPath 500 is the most advanced product on the market right now and should provide plenty of bandwidth for many years to come.

My understanding is this is for broadband deployment.. read a bit more into it i doubt it will be for hdtv signals.

Re: fiber to the pole/premesis

As quoted from the article:

*****

"Bascom is investing in their network because they know the region and the needs of their population better than anyone else. By overbuilding with FiberPath 500 they can deliver what their subscribers are looking for - multi-line phone service, high quality video choices and services, and scalable high speed data in a single, integrated monthly bill."

*****

Yes, they are thinking of video services. If they are forward looking enough to put in the FiberPath 500, then they are surely forward thinking enough to know about the need for HDTV services.

Actually assuming you got scsi 320mbit equipment your speed would be one quarter of that 1.2gbps and one half of that 622mbps. once you start getting over 100mbps its your hardware that limits you, not your connection. and if you got ide crap then its even worse :/

You can never be too rich, too thin or have too much Bandwidth
