| Intermittent Internet
For the last two weeks I been having Intermittent Internet service and I have to reboot my cable modem to get back online. I had 3 comcast techs come out and they all said line and computer are fine. We switched modems and everything. No network just running straight to the cable modem from computer. Tried different computers and different cables. Anyone having the same problem? |

| Actually your not alone. I can't remember where the thread is, but not too long ago there was a discussion about running a batch program that kept pinging the gateway to keep the connection alive. I can't say why this happens, but at least you have a "band-aid" until comcast fixes it. -- You want the truth? You can't handle the truth! |

| reply to k0fcc Hey, found my answer!
It turns out that you can't turn-up internet on the first jack on the splitter. The techs have to give that to someone who's tv only, they put me another jack (and this has happened now to several people) and the modem has been very stable. -- »mac.stan4d.net |

My Internet is on the very first split from the main line. Been that way since I got it in 1997 and I've had no problems with connectivity due to signal issues. -- Tell Comcast to keep or get TechTV: »home.comcast.net/~mbernste/ttv.html

| reply to TroyL65 Hi TroyL65, Are you still having connection issues? I was having the same problem here in Puyallup, but I had just installed a wireless network, and blamed that for my problems. Now it seems like this is a Comcast issue because I was waiting until my next days off from work to concentrate on what was wrong with my networking, and before I had done anything I stopped dropping my connection, and it's been solid for 2-3 days now. Go figure? |

| I've been having a similar problem. My area (SF Bay, around Menlo Park), just got Comcast HSI. I decided to try it on one of the special offers of $20/month for 6 months. When it works, it's great.
However, it keeps going down intermittently. It will work for a few days just fine, and then it will seem to lose its connection. Usually, I just have to power off the SB5100 modem, wait 30 seconds, and then it comes back. But not always.
I live in a townhouse with 2 other tenants, so I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it. I've had a tech come out twice to look at the line, and they both said it seems fine, if a little weak.
It's gotten so annoying that I'm thinking of dumping it, going back to my old (slower) SBC DSL, and waiting until they are done "beta testing" my area. Does anyone else have this problem? Could it be a modem problem? This is the one thing I (or the techs from Comcast) haven't worked on. I've heard that it is unlikely to be the source of problems.

| I've been experiencing the same type of problems... Intermittent loss of connection. However, "loss of connection" may not exactly be the problem. It happened to me this morning while I was on AOL and was listening to streaming music. I lost my connection to AOL but the streaming music didn't stop. Might just be an anomaly, but not sure.
Any suggestions are very much appreciated!!! -- Top Dog in Sac |
