Got this mod from Macci but haven't done it yet....have to sleep first.

Basically here is what it does (Macci's words)

quote:

Well the amount of voltage drop depends on how the 'droop mode' of the regulator is configured. Mine used to drop from 1.76 to 1.68V under load but now with adjusted Droop it stays at 1.76-1.74V all the time

around 28kohm will give idle=1.76, load=1.74V

I used 500k VR set to around 28k

First pic is the solder points for the mod on the P4P800
Second pic is the completed mod by someone else on teh P4P800
Third pic is the mod done on a P4C800

I will report my findings later today when I get my new cpu

I'm guessing the P4C800 has a vcore under volting problem such as the nf7-s eh?

this seems intesting to me. although what performance would be gained from doing something like this?

If your cpu/system is stable at 1.76vcc but the board drops you to 1.68vcc under load You loose stability. Keeping the vcore closer to where its set under load will keep the system more stable.

Exactly. Macci told me this was one of the big things he did to get his 2.4C's stable at over 4Ghz is 3dmark

I'm about to do it

That it could...are you by any chance running S-ata drives? I've found the s-ata controller dies at over 300FSB. Also when you go over 300FSB you need to raise the agp/pci bus speed using setfsb. Set that first then the fsb you want (though the bios has the option to change the pci speed it doesn't work )

Good luck with it

well, I am going to get The Pots today for the Mod.. Mine is dropping from 1.65V No Load to 1.56V Full Load..

Also Pulling That (*&)^%^$ Water block off the Radeon 9800. That is heating up the water way too much for Stability on the cpu..

why exactly do mobo makers do this? is it like a safety issue or something to drop volts under load?

Yes it does. I have mine set to 1.71 V just to get 1.63Vcore reading in MBM.

Gotta be a board issue.

Take any pics?

I don't thing the cpu voltage was holding you back. I think watercooling the NB and good cooling on the cpu is the only way to get over 300FSB stable. Also you have to up the agp/pci speed to 70Mhz before you up the fsb over 300. Also if your on an S-ata drive you won't be getting over 300 because the controller dies

Sorry I did Not Take any Pics.. That Mod was a PAIN to do as the Chip is under the HSF Mount on the P4C800 Deluxe..

The NB is Water cooled along with the Cpu, and I do have 2 SATA drives connected to the Promise controller, but that is disabled right now, so it is just running a regular drive. It did hit 101F here today, so that may have played some part in it..

AGP is set at 70Mhz right now, so that is not it. I have noticed though, the Higher the Vcore is on mine the More unstable the system gets

I just wish why it corrupted the Bios when I went to 5:4 divider though?

Oh well, I guess the Water chiller gets ordered tomorrow (or maybe a Vapochill )..

Edit: just ordered this chiller:
