I'm wondering if it's all relative . . . . meaning that if you live in an area with relatively few users, your download limits may never be reviewed regardless of how much bandwidth you use. Once your area becomes oversaturated, your downloads would conceivably affect the performance and speed of others in your area thereby triggering a warning to you. At least that seems plausible.
Regardless, I have serious problems with any company that refuses to publish limits. What's there to hide?
Just for kicks, I called Comcast this morning to order HSI at home (I already have DSL in that location). When I got the kind salesperson on the phone, I asked about download limits. He said, "There are none, sir. It's unlimited usage, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year." I said, "Are you sure there are no download limits?" He again repeated his assurance that none existed.
I then read the letter that is posted on this thread warning a user of exceeding bandwidth usage. He said, "That's not possible." He then put me on with a sales supervisor.
I repeated the story with the sales supervisor. He said, "No way. We have no bandwidth or download limits."
I said, "Sir, I'm looking at a letter typed on Comcast letterhead and signed by the 'Comcast IP Network Abuse and Fraud Management Team' and it clearly says that the user has exceeded acceptable bandwidth usage." Can you tell me what the limits are?
He had no idea how to answer me and was clearly frustrated by the conversation. He kept saying "I've never heard of limits. I don't know what to tell you."
I then told him that I would not be ordering from a company that doesn't publish its limits or at least inform its sales team that they even exist! -- Not enough room to really say what needs to be said. |
