How true. I spent 750.00 for install and all. Have never had any trouble with the dish set up. I signed up in Sept.2001. With all the little quirks, I still could not go back to dial up. said by Rfsjr2 : Yes, only for the DIRECWAY System hardware. The DIRECWAY System with the DW6000 modem retails for $599.98 (Includes dish, modem and standard installation), and you pay the regular service monthly rate (currently $59.99 per month).
I paid $650 to get DirecwWay (modems, dish, installation). So this would seem to imply that they're pricing it the same as the current DW4000 offering?
But what I want to know is what will the DW6000 cost as a retrofit. And will they require a professional install.
So far, the DW6000 looks like the product they should have built in the beginning. It's encouraging. Maybe Hughes finally has someone on staff that has seen a network before. -- Bragging: DirecWay SRS BE Satmex5 117 1250 MHz, v4.0.3.9 SPC, Via EPIA Mini-ITX 533 MHz 256MB, Win2k SP4, WinRoute Pro, Red Hat Linux, Mozilla browser, OpenOffice.org; terrific wife & kids, live on a farm by Big Creek. |

Shipments going out this week in USA Canada will have product by mid october. Just attended a training session on Installation- fantastic! Confirmed that Canada installs will be on G3R for balance on 2003- no idea about US- kiss the 4000 good-bye this will be what everyone wants. has a built in modem 56 K if satellite signal fails, software on board- can be pre commissioned. No phone line for commissioning etc.Available in .74 and .98 models- suggested .98 for SOHO market.A Real Winner -- Unplugme |

If it's true what you are saying, then it will be a bummer for all who are not on G3R already, and may not be able to repoint. I cut down half of the forest around here to get on G11 and if I have to do all this repointing s... again, it would tick me right off. Also heard that new outdoor hardware is required, which would make this modem less attractive to me than the DW4020. One would think they could produce a modem (pre-programmed if need be) to just replace the DW4000, no matter which satellite it is pointed to.
My enthusiasm about it is shrinking by the day. -- Mike | SRS, LinCsat, 1.80m dish, G11/990, signal 87-94, 4.0.3.9 SP-C, BE, W2k Host, Apple Powerbook OS 10.2.6, Renewable Energy System |

I'm not sure what unplugme is suggesting here, but I think the message is about "new" installs, not upgrades.

"i heard" on the phone with a tech from our distributor and "he says" that they were commissioned to G4r with DW6000 and did a move to satmex 5, "he also said" that his speed tests never fell below 250 upload, i'll believe this when I see it
i don't believe hughes will make the mistake of not making the 6000 available on all the birds as it looks like they are setting it up to be the modem of the future
i mean it's a dream come true for tech support people, installers, dealers, and even the end user
my only negative comment on the 6000 is that it's it all in one piece meaning if the transmit side fries you'll have to wait to receive a whole new modem in the mail cuz your installer can't just hot swap the necessary piece
the Satellite Based Commissioning system is a plus for us installers as you don't need the phone anymore you do it right over your crosspoled SRS system
i am patiently awaiting the 6000, our distributor says monday..... -- Professional Installer. Port-au-prince, HaitiG11 1370 H Consumer, w/.78 meter pointed at G4R and a 1.2 meter with tigres pointed at G4R Vertical for testing and precommissioning. |

Gentlemen- eventually the DW6000 will be available on all birds but not now. In the case of the 4020 it only became available on G11 6 months after G4R and Sat Mex5 . Each satellite requires Hughes to install a gateway that supports the equipment. There will be an upgrade program for the DW4000 but I don't think you will see it till late first quarter next year. As far a changing equipment the transmitter on new units is different as it is set up for the eventual launch of a dual in-route-256K burstable- (2-3- months) but you will need a .98M dish to support dual in-route-same as 4020. Clearly everyone will get to upgrade over a 12 month time frame but those who want it now will have to set up on G3R- no problem with footprint other than northern Canada- slightly bigger dishes. No confrontation-just real information -- Unplugme |

Through which VAR if I may ask? Is this a restriction from the VAR or Hughes?
Also does it apply to upgrades? Maybe you should have asked them, what's happening with existing DW4000 customers. Technically speaking, the unit must surely work on the other satellites too. -- Mike | SRS, LinCsat, 1.80m dish, G11/990, signal 87-94, 4.0.3.9 SP-C, BE, W2k Host, Apple Powerbook OS 10.2.6, Renewable Energy System |

| Right now it means repointing the dish. The existing DW4000 users will get an upgrade but the dude from Hughes said early next year- for right now. any certified installer can upgrade by the online certifiaction process- Where are you located- i will send you a Var contact or I can sign you up. send me an email link -- Unplugme |

| reply to Mikofox So my main question is, if this can be done without installing anything into the DW6000 from a Windows PC, or the re-commission thing.
Problem is folks, system will not be commissioned on satellite you're currently pointed to. New SBC will go onto G3C(95w). You'll need a repoint/XP(install). |

Actually Modem (VADB) is only available for enterprise customers as a backup and the new satellite being used is G3C (same place as G3R) |

do you actually have hard information that states only for g3c for the 6000. i have not seen anything like this. none of the dw6000 online training docs said that it was restricted to g3c. installers are not going to be carrying dw 4000's to use if they need to commission on g11 or g4r or satmex5. and there are shadow states in the US that default now to g11 instead of g3c |

It seems to me that the dw6000 would work on linux out of the box. If all the software is in the DW box, you should be able to hook it up to just about anything. That does not mean you could tech support for it, not that you would need it.
I would imagine that it would reduce a lot of technical support calls. Heck they should probably just about give it away.
