RS&I Notice 383: Introducing the New DW6000

To: All Active Broadband Dealers

**DW6000 is Coming**

We are pleased to announce the pending introduction of the new DW6000
Satellite Return System for DiRECWAY. The new DiRECWAY system will open up
new markets while streamlining the installation process.

Following are a few features of the DW6000 unit:

· The DW6000 is the next generation DiRECWAY System modem. The DW6000
unit will offer the ability to operate not only with computers running
Microsoft Windows, but also with computers running the Macintosh based
operating system. This is achieved by incorporating the DiRECWAY software
inside the DW6000 unit.

· Ever been out on an install where phone lines aren't available?
Well, your worries are over. The new DW6000 will commission using a
revolutionary new process, Satellite Based Commissioning...that's right,
installer's will now be able to commission the DW6000 system using their
laptop and without the need of a phone line and PC modem connection.

they did not say anything about the price, only inventory will start to be available around the end of the month. i would expect that this would be the standard and not cost anything extra. this gets them out of having to load software on the customers computer and relieves them of all the associated hassels

next question will be how to connect this device to a router for networking. probably just buy a standard router and plug in the ethernet cable

My bet is a 1 port router(corrected).

I like the advertisement that no phone will be required for commissioning... I believe it when I see it, This would be a MAJOR step in the right direction.

So we're looking at what? An ethernet port, or two, and maybe a USB port?

Oh yea! Me too when I saw that, I was like, 'Yes that would be the answer to all our major install problems'

but yea .... I'll believe when I see it AND see the first commission go through

Now that there has been some release (from RS&I anyway).

The DW6000 is a DW4020 in one box with one Ethernet LAN port. No USB ports.

It has the ability to use either satellite or the current web based commissioning (over the phone line or other Internet connection).

It can easily be connected to a router for networking. I have mine connected to a Linksys Wireless router.

I have no idea about price so don't ask.

is it me...does that sound like it's getting closer to Starband's system? I am only just learning about Starband from our new installer.
