Carrabelle, FL | 1st Day -Packet8 Just installed my Packet8 service and it was up an running in less than 5 minutes, activation was swift and easy, really impressed so far. I had my sister call me after I called her and the incoming call was great, there was no echo and no lag whatsoever. I will keep everyone informed of updates...Good Job 8x8!!!

Carrabelle, FL | PCMEET, I know you are gonna love it. I got a ratecenter in West Virginia and it is a local call to My Dear Sweet Mother who is 88 years old. She loves the fact this a local call to her. She told my sister once when she called me Long Distance they "changed her Phone Bill", Ha! As I typed this she just called and is so excited, also she left me a voicemail last night and said it worked great.

| Danny, did you make sure that this will be a local call for your Mom ? I just hope that they don't start charge for these type of calls as a way to fight back.

Carrabelle, FL | PCMEET, No, it is a local call for her, she does not have to dial 1-304-699-xxxx, just 699-xxxx, believe she would not have called otherwise. My sister who lives in Belpre,Ohio was nervous about calling the number because even though it is in her "calling area" she was not sure of the 699 prefix...After reading about Vonage being looked at as a phone company, I do not think this will happen with Packet8, cause they are just transferring packets (?)

| Danny, it is better to make sure, may be your sister and your Mom should call their local phone company and ask if dialing your Packet8 number is local or not, I asked Packet8 about this a week ago but no reply. |

You aren't dialing a 1-area code from the land line so it won't be a toll call unless you have some sort of "LOS" type service. I know the land lines over here you have to dial the 1-area code to make a toll call. Hell.. a friend called my P8 from a pay phone one day and it was only the normal local phone call charge.
This isn't a question you should be asking P8. Ask your the phone company that provides the land line. They are the ones that determine what calls are local and long distance for you anyway...not P8. |

Carrabelle, FL | Thanks for all the input, I have researched it to death and I am certain it is not a phone call. A few years ago they changed the area code for my sister in Belpre, Ohio and rather than do other things they have to dial into Parkersburg Zone One using the 1-304-XXX-XXXX but it is not billed to them cause they are in that area code. As I mentioned before my Mother only calls 699-xxxx and I am sure that is a local call. Just to be sure though my sister is going to call SBC in Belpre,Ohio today and check. Again appreciate the feedback.

My 1st day-Packet8 was yesterday, works great but my voice mail is not working, the phone keeps ringing past the 20 second till answer pre-set, I changed through the web site to 15 seconds still no go, any idea how to fix this problem ? |

| WOW Packet8 replied my e mail in 4 hours and they fixed the problem with my voice mail, Packet8 keep up the good work |

Glad to hear others are having a good Packet8 experience. Mine was less than stellar. Last Wednesday, after two weeks or trying, I sent it back. When I called to get an RMA using their service, the customer service rep couldn't hear me. After three tries, I called their 800 number from my cell phone to talk to them.

Is there anyone tried to buy a second DTA from Packet8 ? this will be cool so I can keep one DTA at home and another at work, here s a cut and paste from another site:
"Supposedly, more than one DTA310 can be purchased and setup on the same number. This will allow one call to ring in multiple locations. However, once the call is answered, the other locations would be free to receive another call or place a call. Picking up another exten. will not allow that phone to hear the call you are on.
Currently, only one phone number can ring each phone. However, packet8 supposedly plans to roll out a "Virtual Number" service which will allow you to purchase additional numbers in other area codes and have them point to your phone as well. |

As I understand that is on Business Accounts only.
P8 was the first to bring "Multiple Endpoints" to the VoIP world. VoicePulse does now, and Vonage kind-of does.
It did not work right on Vonage using 1-800 an a 2nd FAX line. Vonage Regional, and Unlimited lines have the capability. [I don't mean to make this a Vonage discussion though.]

| It is in fact a feature of the business plan, and it works well. We had 3 single lines and for the same monthly price we converted to the basic business plan with the multiple endpoint feature. |
