Hey Beach boy.
Thanks for posting these instructions. Great screenshots to make it easier. I had a bit more trouble finding my way with just the text instructions SBCYAHOO sent out on 8-19-03. Well worth the effort. Well worth repeating here.
Thanks, aeroman. -- Flag Icon Copyright by PatriotIcon.org |

| Something's amiss here, and it's probably on my end. I migrated some time back (28 Jan 03 -- I kept the emails "Welcome to SBC Yahoo!"), but when I try and login to SBC Yahoo under BeachBoy's links, it won't let me in. Username is rtm330(at)ameritech.net (which is the username for my email). The password is right -- I verified that that was OK by logging in at Ameritech.net.
I guess it's really not much of an issue. I use Pegasus Mail, and only download messages off the server whose usernames I know. All others get dumped before they get to me.
So am I *really* migrated?

| And I found out what was wrong. At my end.
If you have a *special* character as part of your password, and it's the last character, then SBC Yahoo DSL (and now after I've looked into it, Ameritech and the mail server) ignore it -- unless you type it in during the login. Yep, that's right. I haven't checked what happens to the main account by changing the router. I've been putting that character in for my logins for, er, almost two years now, and this is the first time I've seen this.
Now, BeachBoy, what happens when the Bulk mail folder gets full?
Reason I ask is that I have a free Yahoo account whose address somehow found it's way into some other knucklehead's address book, and he has a virus and apparently he, Yahoo, and pacbell.net (he's a Pacbell guy ... feel free to launch all DoSes, Ping of Death and any other hijinks to 66.126.230.122) don't really give a #$%^ about it. 100K Sobigs every minute or so. I've sent three emails to abuse both Yahoo and Pacbell to complain about it. Now here's the stupid part -- the Yahoo abuse email always bounces the message ... because the attachment contains a virus. Apparently the same virus checking is not going on in the Central Committee's email as is in the proletariat's email.
Regards,

If the bulk mail folder gets full then the bulk folder empties on it's own. What I would do is log in via webmail about once a month or so, and check and make sure no legitimate messages don't get flagged as spam..
If it was up to me I would not use any special characters in your passwords. I read an article that XP has a hard time with encrypting logins when special characters are used as well.

| You do have to tweak the Bulk Mail filter a bit. Remember you can totally block addresses, or totally allow certain addresses. A friend's emails would sometimes end up in Bulk Mail because he uses spam like subjects ie. "did you hear about this?" etc. If there are certain newsletters and such that end up in Bulk Mail again you can have Yahoo allow that addy's emails to hit your inbox. |

BB:
And here's a little bit more goofiness. The Yahoo free emails allow you to use a special character in the password. Even at the end, it doesn't drop it. However, SBC Yahoo drops the special character at the end. Even when you're using the same dsl.sbc.yahoo.com signin page. Whazzup wit dat?

| reply to David This is just a dumb thought and I would probably have to bet on one being the sbcglobal.net server and the other one being yahoo. That I would have to let one of the ISP techs like CCCMtech, or Ameritectech answer. -- Still kicking and still fast and furious!! Year To Date Stats: Current weight: 360lbs, total loss: 225!! |

| reply to David Why is it that when setting up a BRAND-NEW ACCOUNT on SBC-Yahoo, I get spam in the first day----without ever using this new email account or telling anyone about it?!??!?!!?
That just plain sucks! Anyone else? I wish pacbell.net never went to SBC-Yahoo if I'm going to get spam from day-1.

| reply to Jon Paul Dictionary attacks. Unless you have a creative username you are a sitting duck for these if your ISP is large enough.
You did opt out of everything when you registered the account, right? I have yet to get one email spam on my sbcglobal.net account names. |

| reply to David I guess I could have been getting attacked by the 'dictionary' method since my email IS just 'jonpaul'. Do I have to delete/abandon my spammed email and come up with a new one? What are some guidelines for an email name that is not susceptable to dictonary spamming? Use of underscores? Numbers? etc.? |
