Thought it was about time I introduced myself. I've been a long time lurker, but just started posting photos recently. Photography has been taking up most of my free time these days, along with a lot of studying. I'm really trying to master all the technical details.

 Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XT 18mm 30s F3.5 ISO100
Sample shot of my work |
OK now for my little post.
My name's Justin and I'm 25. I've been a photography fanatic all my life, but never really pursued it until the last year or so (Finances always being a nice reminder of things I can just never have).
I finally have my hands on a decent camera (Canon Rebel XT) and now I'm hoping to start some basic technique and to hopefully find my niche in style. I've been shooting digital since probably 1999 (Back when a 1.3MP camera was worth 900$ hehehe) but this is the first DSLR I've owned. I have done a bunch of 35mm work with another Canon SLR I own, but never went totally crazy with it due to the costs of developing and such.
Now with my new camera I've been working on building a basic "kit". Now have 4 lenses (2 zoom, 1 tele, and 1 prime) and a basic working kit of filters and polarizers etc. I have also just recently ordered a full studio package on ebay (Yes one of those 400$ packages with the strobes and all the accessories, so this could be interesting)
I find I'm rather partial to Canon, mainly because it's all I've been able to afford (At the time of 35mm) and I just never switched when it came time to go digital. I've tried Nikon on occasion but never stuck with it (I guess that's just me). But I'm also a firm believer in the fact that it's the photographer that makes a good shot, not the camera. So my attitude is whatever works for you, works best.
As for style I think I'm still in the process or reaching out to all different types trying to find if there's one that I'm really good at. I like everything from macro, to bakeh, to night shots, to action shots, to landscapes, and of course portraiture (Yeah nothing narrow yet). With the new studio stuff on the way I hope to get a basic studio set up and that way I'm not always borrowing stuff. With that I hope it will give me a better chance to "Settle in" on a style or perfect what I do even more.
From what I'm told I should pursue night shots and portraits. I guess it's what people have found to be really good of my work. For my attachment I can't find much I'd like to show except a night shot I took of a firework (Handheld sitting on the side of the road lol). I would upload a portrait however haven't looked into getting permission for it first. |

Top: Okay here's one I took here at work not long ago. I was just messing around, but when I looked at it I really thought it looked neat!
Middle: This is the last of the 4 setups we did, it's the Air Force boots/rifle/dog tags/helmet.
Bottom: I may crop this, but I like the wreath in the background. This is taken on Memorial Day 2008 (the date was messed up on the camera). What I am doing is marching back from placing a helmet on what's basically a memorial cross (I'll try and find the actual name of, KCP may even post here with it). My part in the Memorial Day setup was to follow the Soldier that was placing the dog tags on the butt of the rifle. -- "I am Jack's utter lack of surprise." |

Most of my photography are action shots of my kids, so this is how they typically see me!
